So I'm in a pinch and want to sell some things at a gun show out of state.

I understand I can't transfer a shotgun to an out of state buyer without going through a local FFL, can I go through one of the FFLs at the show? Is that rude, or will they generally take my processing fee and call it in for me?

I assume I can sell my flintlock without concern because muzzle loaders enjoy different classification status, but do please let me know if I'm off base on that one.

In case it makes a big difference, the show is in Ohio and I'm coming from Pennsylvania.

Any firearm you sell to another person must involve an FFL unless the other person is a resident of your state. Interstate ownership transfers of firearms (barring bequests) must always involve an FFL to be legal.

Although it's not required in all cases, you're better off picking an FFL that has a business location in the state where the person buying the firearm resides. It's not required for all transactions but federal law requires it for some transactions and state law can be more restrictive.

Most FFLs will be happy to handle the transaction for you--for a fee. They get to name the fee and it's hard to predict what the amount would be.

Muzzle loaders are not restricted by federal law but state laws may be more restrictive. You'll really need to know the laws for all the states involved to make sure you don't break any of them.

Here in Southern Illinois the gun show promoters have a table set up to do transfers. They do the paperwork and hold the gun for the required waiting period so the purchaser can pick it up. They charge $10. All neat and legal.
