Privi Partizan 8mm Mauser

I can't speak for their Mauser ammo, but I've never had a problem with PRVI Partizan ammo in any gun I've used it in. Their 7.62x54R soft points even feed fine in a PSL. The general consensus is that PRVI Partizan stuff is very good ammo.

that's what I've read about it on the forums here. I like european ammunition because it's generally pretty cheap and reliable.
I just need some soft point or hollow point 8mm mauser for my M48 to hunt deer. I can use the ball rounds here for wild boars, but not deer.. so I'm shopping.

I just wanted to make sure this particular selection was ok to use in my M48 because in the picture it looks a bit short and made me think it just MIGHT not be what I need.

I have it on order already anyway. I didn't notice it looked short until after I ordered it, so I guess I'll check it out when it gets here. If push comes to shove, I'll find someone at the public range to take it and just hunt pigs.

A PSL is also on my "to own list", and an M76.

PP ammo

I bought a couple boxes of the 7 x 57 stuff, nice and accurate...well, not super but under 2 inches and worked fine on a couple of 150 and 200 lb hogs.

You should be happy with it. Besides, it's a bolt gun. It's not picky. Keep in mind that the bullet itself may be a little shorter and that could be skewing your perception. That part doesn't matter as long as it feeds. The case length and bullet depth are all that really matters.

I considered taking my PSL javelina hunting. I chose the Saiga .223 instead because I didn't think there'd be much meat left after a 150-grain soft point hit a 40-ish pound pig.

I wouldn't be rattled over the pic. They take a photo, and fit it to the space required to fill/build their ad. I'm not in the advertising business, but if you want to see some distorted looking ammo ads- look over at Outdoor Marksman. They used to have some .38 S&W pics that looked like 40mm grenades.

i use it in a yugo 24/47 that prints .75 inch 5 shot groups all day off a solid rest. needless to say i was VERY surprised & pleased at that level of performance. i wouldn't expect that ammo to give you any problems.

sorry for not putting this in the first post but the groups are at 100 yards

Ok, I just tried it. I'll tell you all what, I don't know if I just got a bad batch or what, but the stuff I just shot SUCKED.

It was clearly underpowered, and at ranges of 25-50 yards(didn't bother at 100) I'm getting 8inch spread with this stuff, which is even worse than I get with Romanian Surplus, which by the way isn't bad at all, and comparing recoil, makes these Soft points feel like bunny fart loads. AND the last five shots had hang-fires, just a short delay before charge ignition, but enough to p*ss me off.

Also, BTW, it's even dirtier than the surplus ammo and left a trail of soot on the bottom of the bore, the entire lenth of the barrel, and is blatantly visible looking down the bore from the rear of the receiver.

I'm sad, but so far, my M48 does not have a hunting trip in it's immediate future, unless I can hunt boar with military ball....

Maybe next time I'll try Norma or Sellier & Bellot. But Prvi Partizan will NOT see my money again.

On a good note, their .308win performed ok... and was also underpowered, I wish I had a chronograph, because even though it's accuracy was acceptable, I doubt I'd trust it for a 200yd shot.

Bad batch or not? I don't know. All I can say is I have had nothing but good experiences with PP ammo. Very accurate and positively NOT weak and not sooty. I've used .223,7x57 and 7.65x53 but not 8x57. Sorry for your bad experience.

That's surprising I have shot many thousands of Privi rounds down range over the years and it has always been good ammo.

In my experience it seems about on par with bulk Federal, and a step down from top of the line stuff like Hornady or SSA.

I'd place PRVI about in the same category as S&B, which I hold in high regards.

but the stuff I just shot SUCKED.

I have had good luck shooting PPU ammo in 6.5x55 and 7.62x54R. The brass is good quality and boxer primed.

I'm not sure why you had problems with it in your rifle. You need to try other brands and see how they do, as you mentioned.

I double-checked my Savage, and it's not dirty at all, so I think the 8mm WAS just a bad batch. I shot the same brand through both rifles today, and only the 8mm had problems, and only it is filthy, so.... yep, it'll just be a while till I buy anymore PP, I was just enraged at having spent money on faulty ammo.

I use PRVI in my 6.5x55 T3, never had an issue, accurate, good reloadable brass, and $13 a box. That is HARD to beat in my book. I have also used their 270 win ammo in my Savage and it also shot well and never had an issue which is more then I can say for Winchester.

Privi Partizan is excellent ammo. I ve shot 8 mm SP 196 gr in my M 24/47 and grped an astounding 1.5 inch at 100 yds. And it also shot to poa even if the rear sight was at 200 meters line.

nothing but good luck on my end as well as far as shooting goes but not the greatest brass for reloading if you ask me
