Problems with my Ruger LCP.

Definitely try different ammo, mine didn't like the American eagle stuff at all. The Winchester white box stuff shot flawlessly especially after a couple hundred rounds break-in. I love mine, its so flat and light and the DOA trigger is by far the best I've tried in a small package like the LCP.....just my .02

I still prefer a J frame, either my 638 or 642. Neither needs a key to work.

If I do need the 'flatness' of the 380, I use my Colt Pony Featherweight.

But as I stated earlier, once Ruger catches up with their present Recall, and the LCP has a few miles on it, I would like to try one.

It's all good.

Farnorthdan,

I already tried a bunch of different ammo--not that I think that one should have to wade through otherwise reliable ammo makers to find the one that my fussy gun likes. My LCP was fussy (i.e., unreliable) with all of them.

If LCPs are so bad then I'll probably have one soon.
One thing that I've noticed from the above posts is that most of these guns fired properly until they were cleaned - either by the shop or the new owner.

Think it over... .

Posts: 119 Corbon 90gr JHP's fail horribly in mine. FMJ's and Golden Sabers have been 100%. I have since read about other people having similar experinces to mine with those Corbons and the LCP.

We discovered a feed problem with our 90 gr JHP rounds in the Ruger LCP. We worked with the engineers at Ruger to resolve this problem. Our 380-90 JHP is loaded to SAAMI max length at the shoulder. Ruger has begun lenthening the throat on the little pistols and it works just fine now. I was told that anyone having problems with this can send their top end of their LCP to Ruger and they will open up the throat of the chamber at no charge. (Just sending the top end in won't bear the cost of next day shipping).

I posted up on the first page - just got mine back from Ruger yesterday. Going to take it to the range today as see how it does......depending, there may be a LCP for sale......:uhoh:

They did some work to the barrel and replaced the extractor, cost was 25.oo for shipping:fire:

I will post results.......................................

Well, took the Ruger to the range today and.....................................................................

After 200 rounds, not a single problem. 100% functional.

I am now a happy camper.

Shot the first 75 rounds through my new LCP today.

I shot a box of Magtech and had one FTF ~75% of the magazines. It was usually the second round that didn't quite chamber.

I then shot 25 Golden Sabers through it without a single FTF or hiccup of any kind.

It's stock; I just disassembeld and cleaned it before shooting. No fluffing, no buffing.

I will try some other types of ammo before I get concerned.

Well, I finally got my LCP back from Ruger this week. It spent just a little over a month in Arizona. I took it out to the desert and put a total of 75 rounds through it--some Remington, some American Eagle, and some Winchester. All 95 gr. All FMJ. The Winchester is flat-nosed. No problems. No FTFeeds like I was getting before. Not one problem. I'm pretty happy. And Ruger gave me a mailer when I sent it to them. So it only cost me extra time, and it looks like it's pretty reliable now. I'll post more when I shoot more.

Watch out.

I was at the local shop and their range LCP's magazine was coming apart. The back panels was chipped and peeling from the sides.

just to answer a few of your questions guyz

99.9% of jams in semi-auto pistols are shooter induced failures...

ie limp wristing (which is very easy to do with a small light gun)

another thing is people complain to me about how semi autos jam when people chamber the first round... (that is usually caused by slow operation of the slide... the slides are designed to work fast... if you slow it down at all it will not have enough inertia to load the round..)

but specifically in the ruger you will have extraction issues... ruger decided to copy the original kel tec design (which failed, and caused kel tec to redesign the extractor as you can see on the new p3at.)

as for the gent who posted a picture with the round nose bullets with the dents in the center of "head" of the bullet... at my shop we call them smilyes... kel tecs also suffer from those, those are a result of the feed ramp being to low and as you shoot the round below the round being chamberd slams into the bottom of the ramp and causes that it is a relatively simple fix with a dremmil however i do not recommend doing it yourself unless you are a gunsmith or have done it before..

and then from a dealers point of view...

the ruger lcp is almost next to impossible to get... every single distributer has them "allocated" which means ruger isn't producing enough of them yet for them to be widely available... either way i would wait until the lcp extractor issues get resolved..

sure is news to me about ruger haveing an extractor problem. considering the ruger extractor system is used on about 99% of all semi's compared to that leaf spring ugly thing that kt has come up with, and evidently you must be new to kt, for they had a ton of issues with their leaf sprign extractor system, until they finally got it right, If ruger copied the originial kt extractor design, who did kt copy it from?????

I think that Ruger is doing a dis-service to all loyal ruger Fans with LCP copy of a Keltec. If you copy Something at least make it better! Than the orignal!!!!

The basic flawed assumption here made by almost everyone is the idea that it's physically possible to mass-produce a pocket pistol which is highly reliable across a range of manufacturing tolerances. There's various reasons for this, but the fact remains that if it's semi-auto, and can fit into a pocket, there will inevitably be issues with a large enough sample size.

jocko i would suggest that you call gunsmiths or ruger and ask them how many "extractor issues the rugers are having"

ps jocko i will post pictures of the original kel tec extractor system, then the rugers, then the new kel tecs...

in the end its still the same... kel tec CREATED the pocket pistol with locked breach.... everything else was blowback up until this point in a firearm of that size...

who copied who.... my prediction is that most manufacturers will have a similar pistol to the kel tec within the next 5 years...

hotshooting

I am aware of the kt first extractor system and then their last. Their first is on damn near every semi. They certainly didn't invent the wheel here. No need to post as far as I am concerned. Owned 3 kt's none were reliable at all. 17 times back. So far my lcp has been 100%...Shoot what u want, own what you want.

Probably will see a Ruger single stack 9 in the very short time. Guess Kahrs new P380 with locked breech is a steal from kt to????? Forgive us all John browning..

jocko how many guns do you own? / how many do you think you have shot in your entire life? and i would ask how many rounds would you say you have fired...

this is just a question not intended to be taken as an insult or challenge im just curious..

a living

sold guns for a living for over 40 years, Couldnot tell you how many I have owned. Presently own 7, one wheel gun, model 60, G19, Two kahrs k9 and PM9, one smith M & P.

My pm9 has 13,650 flawless rounds through it, Never bragged on being a shooter but I shoot probably more than 75% of all shooters. More defense oriented than target, Been armed robbed in my business twice, once with a shotgun, the other a semi. Been broken into and guns stolen twice also.

as i already said im not looking for an argument i was just curious

i am not looking to chest beat... i just dont understand why people are never open to hear information from other sources other than themselves... not to mention your history isnt shabby at all.. as you know you probably have what i call "gun shop warriors" come into your store all the time who have little to no knowledge or experience but pretend they do... you however seem to have the experience to back up what you say and im not being sarcastic..

also i am in the firearm industry as well i own and operate a gun store (stocking approx 1800 firearms) and a indoor shooting range.

i am sorry to hear about your armed robberies and your burglarys... its 1 of the worst feelings in the world to be on the wrong end of those... and i would never wish those upon anyone
