I bought a ruger lcp about a month ago now, and put 150 rounds through it when I first got it without a single problem. However, today me and my friend went to do our CCW qualification course and he was using my LCP and it was double feeding every single round. Thought it was bad ammo, so the instructor let me use a few different brands of ammo he had on hand for his bersa, same thing.

Tried

Federal
Magtech
Tula
BlazerBrass

all constant doublefeeds and the occasional stovepipe.

Looks like this little guy is going to be taking a trip to Prescott.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

I would suggest borrowing another magazine from someone that is not having a problem before sending in your gun. Might save you from being without your weapon for a while.

A buddy of mine had the same problem, only his was right out of the box. It's at Ruger for repair now.

If we are talking about a true double feed, it isn't a magazine problem...although the most common cause of problems in a pistol is the magazine.

For a double feed to occur, the first round must have remained in the chamber after being fired. Then the second round would have been stripped from the magazine and pushed into the rear of the chambered casing.

That is usually an extractor problem. Try cleaning and inspection the extractor hook, but more than likely it is time for a trip back to Ruger

Spoke to Ruger CS in Arizona, and the guy was very nice and apologetic that this was happening, he immediately emailed me a UPS overnight shipping label and I printed it, and sent it back just now. He had me check the spring orientation while we were on the phone. So far, very impressed with the customer service and will post again when I get it back.

Mine did that intermittently when I first got it (NIB), once ruger replaced the slide the problem was gone. Had to send it twice as the first time they replaced some parts but not the slide. I think the breech face was not machined right, as the extractor could not hold a round against it when field stripped.

Mine did that too, among other problems. Ruger finally gave me a refund. Looking at getting a Colt Pocketlite, no more plastic for me.
