I have been very pleased with a Stag Arms AR15 I recently purchased.
It is my first rifle of this type.
I would like to know what people believe to be a “proper” grip for best trigger control etc.
I have small hands. I do not believe the finger notch of the pistol grip that came with the rifle is in an optimum location for me.
But this is based on my past handgun experiences.
I find myself jamming the web of my right hand up as high as I can under the lower receiver/buffer tube juncture, and then gripping.
Just like I would on any semi-auto pistol I have learned/trained with.
It seems like I have good trigger control this way.
But my index finger is not on the same plane as the trigger – it’s higher.
If I continue to use this high grip, I think I need to remove the finger notch of the original pistol grip or purchase a replacement.
What are your thoughts?

You may find an A1 grip can be had very cheaply and is without the A2's finger nub. Just getting rid of this may help considerably, but you're not alone. The A2 nub isn't well placed for me either and I've installed several A1 grips on my AR-15s.

If you want to spend a little more money, the Ergo grip (and others) is very comfortable and has a spacer up in back that drops the firing hand down a little too.

That's the best way to achieve a good solid grip. If you have trouble getting good trigger control that way, then you could either purchase another grip, or modify the one you have.
