I can buy a .22 suppressor in the US for about $162(+$200 fed transfer tax). Obviously $162 is more than $75 but I suspect the other $88 is to cover the cost of paperwork more than anything else. There seems to be a lot of paperwork and hassle associated with selling suppressors in the US.

I think the higher prices are a reflection of psychology more than anything else. "If I'm going to spend $200 on a tax stamp, I may as well spend more to get a really good suppressor".
