protection gun for mom??

Let her heft your choice before you buy. My mom thinks almost everything but an airweight S&W J-frame is too heavy.

When she actually touches off a round, she might appreciate some weight.

I'll share my experience. We got my Mom, my wife, and close friends professional training, and not from "family members". We do answer questions & what not, but they just seem to learn better from "someone else". Then they absolutely need to try out and pick what they want for themselves. Our Ladies ended up with pistols they are comfortable with & became competent with: a snub K frame .38, 5" 1911, BHP, Detective Special, 3913, etc... It's also important to remember small "cute" pistols recoil more & are harder to shoot; and that grips can make a huge difference. Best.
