Thinking of picking up a Kahr P380, primarily for the girlfriend, since she wants something a little smaller than my G27 for everday carry.

Took her to the range today to rent one. They didn't have the P380, but they did have the PM9, so we took that for a spin. Not only did she shoot it exceptionally well for someone who had never shot such a small handgun before, but when I told her that the same weapon also comes in .40 cal, she was immediately interested in trying one. The range didn't have one for rent, but there's another range nearby that does. We may have to make the drive next weekend. :)

On a related note, as soon as she stops pulling her shots low, she's going to outshoot me pretty easily. When she really concentrated on her trigger control, her groups with my G22, G27, and the PM9 were looking better than mine.

Sounds like you'll be needing to hit the range more often Sarge.

Good reason to marry her!

I was surprised that she wanted to try the PM40, but not that she has the potential to outshoot me with a handgun. She's spent almost as much time around firearms as I have.

I'll always outshoot her with an M4 though. ;)

If you don't have them get her some snap caps so she can practice her trigger pulls.
That is unless you don't want to be beaten that is.

But great for her, I am always so impressed when i see a lady shoot or have a ccw.
I hope she has time to practice alot as i know my SA XD SC .40 is a handfull and im a big guy. With good ammo the extra recoil in such a small gun may not be worth it.

Why the surprise? Girls/women often outshoot guys. I'm not sure why... better small motor muscle control?

Maybe, but men are supposed to have somewhat better skills that relate to fighting and hunting, right? I mean on the average, of course.

More concentration?

I don't know, but there are still, even to this day, more men in occupations that require the extreme ability to concentrate mentally, while women tend to be better--at least historically--at holding their focus on repetitive tasks. Shooting a gun doesn't usually involve either such intense or prolonged concentration, so I doubt that's it.

Less testosterone?

BINGO! :D Firearms usually don't require exceptional size or strength to use successfully, so the advantages of testosterone are largely rendered moot. On the average (and there are many exceptions on both sides), I think women tend to take a more humble or less entitled approach toward shooting, and actually try to do all the things that are necessary more in earnest. Do that, and firearms and physics will usually reward you with better performance. It's not so much a matter of testosterone per se, but mostly cultural factors.

We went and shot the PM9 and the PM40 today. She liked them, but we agreed that we were both more comfortable shooting the 9mm, so I see a PM9 in our near future. Oh, and I got her to stop pulling her shots (mostly).

Here are her best two 5 round groups at 15 feet:

And her worst:

I wasn't shooting 5 round groups, but here's where my 25 rounds went:

I don't know, what do you guys think? She may be outshooting me already.

Everyday I can shoot is a proud day. Congrats on having a woman that likes to shoot. My wife loves to shoot her Mossberg 500 20 gauge at little flying clay discs.

Now that you know she can shoot, you will be sleeping with one eye open... :)

Now that I know she can shoot, I'll be sleeping like a baby. If anyone breaks in in the middle of the night, she can handle it. ;)

My wife almost always outshoots me with a 9mm. It's apparently her natural handgun platform. She doesn't do so well with a .40, because the increased muzzle-flip annoys her.

One of those things that just is, I suppose.
