Hope you all get a chuckle out of this (although it's true, not a joke).

My father-in-law has lived in Peru for years and years, and he recently had to get his carry permit renewed.

A person is required to undergo a "psychological exam" for this purpose. Here are the three questions that he specifically remembers:

"Count backwards from 100 by sevens."

"What do the following pairs have in common:
Apple and Banana.
Tree and Bumblebee."

"Have you ever used a firearm to injure someone?"

I don't think this kind of questioning would provide the examiner with any penetrating insight, but regardless, my father-in-law achieved a score of- and this is actually written in the file in black and white- "intellectually superior".

100,93,86,79,72,65,58,51,44,37,30,23,16,9,2
Fruit, bees pollinate trees
no

Do I get my permit now?:D

You got one wrong!:)

Bees and trees are both alive

Seriously. That was the answer.

You might get a permit, but you're clearly not "intellectually superior":p

I was just in Peru for a month. Can you expand more on what you need to get a permit there?

i dont think there would be one correct answer
closest to a wrong answer for second pair would be something like both end in ee that might show concrete thinking

Q: "Do you argue minute points of legality in online firearms forums?"

If you answer "Why, yes, I do, quite frequently." then you just might be nuttier than squirrel turds.

"Count backwards from 100 by sevens."

Only if the neighbor's dog allows me.

"What do the following pairs have in common:
Apple and Banana.
Tree and Bumblebee."

All four talk about me behind my back.

"Have you ever used a firearm to injure someone?"

Humans, no, but I have defended myself from the invaders from Gamma 7 who live in my mother's trees.

Well, it was given in Peru, so I'm assuming the 'test' was in Spanish, thus eliminating the spelling and pronunciation answers from being in the ballpark.

Counting backwards from 100 by sevens is a common test for mental calculation abilities; it is usually used to check for neurological damage. It's also often used to induce tremors in suspected Parkinson's cases.

Bees and trees are both alive. Seriously. That was the answer.
In these tests they rarely tell you the right answer. Based on the counting from 100 question, it sounds like they are testing brain function. In that case, they aren't looking for a right answer, they are looking for a wrong answer. If one is suffering from reduced brain function due to injury or illness, they might answer the question like this:
"Apples and bananas"
-- They are both fruit.
"Trees and bumblebees."
-- They both plants.

It sounds as though they were evaluating him for Alzheimer's.

I was thinking "tree" and "bumblebee" rhyme, or that both end with the same two vowels.

I suspect the test in Peru given in spanish. "Manzana y plátano" and "árbol y abejorro" sound as little different.

Bees and trees are both alive
Not in MY yard they aren't. My wife is very allergic to bee stings. I keep multiple cans of spray around and zap every bee, wasp or hornet I see. As for trees -- if trees are alive, why have I just spent thousands of dollars have DEAD trees cut down?

I would NEVER have picked "alive" as what bees and trees have in common.

Are you insane?
Only in Peru.

I really don't think I could do the counting backward thing, either. I'd need to write the numbers down as I went along so I didn't lose track. Of course, I'm the kind of person who has to sing the alphabet song in my head occasionally, and sometimes hold my hands up to form an "L" to remember which way is right and left. I promise I'm not an idiot.

bees & trees rhyme, as well as being alive - i don't think the pollinating trees is what they were looking for. lol

seriously though, some people want just flat out eugenics. :cuss:

"Count backwards from 100 by sevens."
50, 45, 44, 41, 38, 32, 25, 22, 9

"What do the following pairs have in common:
Apple and Banana.
Tree and Bumblebee."
Banana's looks like guns, guns are used to shoot apples off of peoples heads.

Tree's provide concealment whereas a bee similarly has natural concealment with its colors in flowers.

"Have you ever used a firearm to injure someone?"

No, they died.

"Count backwards from 100 by sevens." - Numbers dont like me lol.

"What do the following pairs have in common:
Apple and Banana.
They are fruit
Tree and Bumblebee."
The bee uses the tree as a nest

"Have you ever used a firearm to injure someone?"
No -This is the only legit question. The rest are absolutely unnecessary.
