PT145 is a jam-o-matic!

Sounds good to me

I have a Taurus PT92 and it has never given me problems of any kind. After reading this thread, I looked up the PT145 at a dealer website, and I think I might go down to Sportsman's Warehouse tomorrow and get one. Sure looks like a nice pistol to me... but then I am a fan of virtually all pistols.

Didn't notice an answer to the question of if the OP tried the other magazine or not. Sending the gun back will not result in happiness if the problem is the magazine. From the description of the failure sounds like a "ride over feed" type of thing where the base of the cartridge is not high enough in the mag as the slide closes and the the side catches the extraction groove leading to a "nose up" type if jam.

I see this all the time with Para Ordnance P14 mags when they get dirty or the springs wear out.

I've had quite a bit of experience with Taurus pistols in the past year and it does seem that the good ones, the majority, are really first rate BUT the lemons are so bad that they really ought to be put back in the smelter and recycled for the metal.
I just don't understand how the same company can make such excellence and such crap out of the same damn production lines.

The PT1911 has many hand fitted parts, done by what I have read are the top 'smiths Taurus has on payroll. This is why you dont hear hardly any(if any at all) bad things about the PT1911; from what I understand, its entirely hand assembled, which lends itself to quality control. Thats pretty much Taurus' problem in a nutshell. Quality control, not so much the design of the guns in general, but the guns they let leave the factory that shouldnt. Shame, when you think about it. They're great guns at great prices. They just need to be consistant, like Ruger. Read handgunreview.com. You're not alone.

My PT145

Has been a joy to own. I bought it when the second (i think) version came out it is DAO and has a light rail under the dustcover. Maybe 2000 rounds of wwb, CCI Blazer, 200 gr semi-wad cutter handloads over 5.0 grains of 700X and about a hundred 185 gr solid copper taurus ammo. No complaint. Not as accurate at 25 yards as my Witness full size but that is due to me and the long double action trigger on the Taurus.

How the hell did this become a "Bash Taurus, now jump on and defend Taurus" thread?

Well I hope my posts aren't taken in either context. I'm not bashing or defending. I like the Taurus firearms I own, I've experienced some troubles with other Taurus firearms. Simply stating facts.

However back to your original point (the jams), sorry about the spring bit, somehow I missed that you had already mentioned that. Apparently with the PT-145 they've altered spring dimensions enough that putting it in backwards can't really happen (most of my experience has been with PT-140's and a couple of PT-111).

Anyway I was just trying a run-down of the typical issues I hear on those occasions that somebody has a problem with this series of pistols.

No offense taken, ZeSpectre:) . I just noticed some posters seemed to think that I was posting a "bash Taurus" thread, which is not my intention at all.

Wally, I did answer your question in a follow up post. I tried both mags that were supplied with the gun and the jams were the same with both. The overrunning condition you describe makes sense to me in the way the jams occurred. If both mags are the faulty culprit Taurus can figure that out because I ain't spending $37 bucks on another mag for this gun just to see if it fixes it. Should work outta the box, no if's and but's, dirty, clean, dry, lubed, Hollowpoint, ball, SWC, shouldn't matter. If this is a type of gun that must be babied than it isn't CCW reliable and I'll keep my Glock.:)

Taurus PT140 pro

I've got a Taurus PT-140 pro that has been flawless through 1300 rounds, I really like this pistol and it is my CCW gun.:D
