Pump 22 Rifle Returned From Henry

As much as I hate the way they look, I would rather buy a Rossi pump .22 than the Henry given the price to pump stiffness ratio.

There really is no excuse as to why someone today can't make a quality pump action .22, clearly there is a market for them as a manual .22 is a no muss, no fuss shooting experience and I don't care for bolt or lever .22's.

Rossi really did a number on the looks of their pump 22. I have an older C version an it mimics the looks of the Winchester it is a copy of. My son-in-law has his great grandfather's Winchester and they look about identical except for condition. To describe the Winchester, it would be that it lead a very tough life. Reviving an old saying from my kid days to describe ugly I have to say the new Rossi's are as ugly as a mud fence.

I had banked on Henry's quality. I don't hate the looks of the Henry, but it doesn't grown on you either. Rossi on the other ends is dead ugly. I can see the project planning meeting on the design changes. "People like our design too much, we have to change it". "who can make it ugly"?

I can see the bean counters telling the engineering department to figure out how to cut some corners to make it cheaper to produce. Same results. However it went it worked as it is one ugly little gun now.

i bought this 1940 made win 61 in .22 at a flea market for less than 300.00, due to being D&T for a old weaver side mount. i mounted a 3/4" baby redfield scope on it and its slick as snot with dime size 10 shot groups at 35 yards. i would not trade it for a dozen new henry,s .22 rifles.

Eastbank, I love your rifle. My new Golden Boy was delivered by UPS today. A little on the heavy side, but sturdy enough. So stick a fork in this thread, turned in one none slick Pump for one slick Lever Gun.

I have 2 boxes of CCI CB Shorts.
Box 1 --- a copper covered bullet at approx 1000/ fps --- full power shorts.
Box 2 --- a waxy lubed bullet (low noise round) at approx 725/ fps --- low power shorts.

Or "government worker" and "speed strip" (calm down; I'm a retired government worker :)).
I also retired from State "Government"...with 46 years of service in several agencies. Sometimes I changed agencies and sometimes my program and I were moved together as part of "reorganizations". Still, some moves were reinvigorating!

The one .22 pump I had was a Stevens Visible Loader, action was smooth enough.

It was visible, but it wasn’t a loader. Wouldn’t feed even one round from the magazine, new parts didn’t help, so down the road it went.

OP, good luck with your new gun!

Have the older Rossi pump, the '06-like version. It is both handsome and nicely finished, it's the 16" version, tiny little thing.
Buddy gave me a 19th Century Lyman tang sight, which made that little Rossi about as accurate as a gun can be. A tang sight is the magic on these old pump guns.
Actually saw a genuine Winchester at a gunshow recently, but I'm more than happy with the Rossi.
Unhappily, for reasons totally known to themselves, Rossi has made their current pumps Fugly with a capital F.
It is hilarious to load it with shorts; it holds what seems about a hundred. ;)

Got my Henry Pump 22 back from Henry on Thursday. I have to say I hate sending things back. Mental flaw or something. My Henry Pump has always been hard to cycle. Not like an old Remington 12. For me, it seemed you needed the arms of Hercules. Easy for me, but not for the wife. I took it apart and oiled things down, did the usual polish of ruff edges. Just not a smooth action. I sent it a couple weeks ago and just got it back. The invoice said they replaced the bolt assembly and carrier feed lever, and reamed the chamber. Said it test fired ok. Out of the box it cycles just as hard as before.

I emailed them, the reply was that I could trade it for a Golden Boy if I wanted. Back into the box it went. Will mail it next week.

Henry made good on their promise. I just wish the pump was a little smoother with a little less effort. Maybe comparing it to a Remington 12 is the problem.
I also hate sendings thing back back so I'm glad it worked out.

She's a beaut!!!

To my knowledge Henry makes no rifles with the model name “Yellow Boy” . They do make a ‘Golden ‘Boy however which was mentioned earlier in the thread.

What’s funny, earlier this week they said shipping would be delayed do to production times.

I had no such issue with Henry making my first order. Ordered a commemorative H009BG on January 12th with the notice it would take 12-16 weeks to build and ship. It arrives at my FFL by this weekend. Almost too fast.
