Question about 1911 for carry

I have a citadel officers sized (3.5 inch, I think it might be the same gun as the RIA CS with different roll marks- I forget) in stainless and I love it. carries well, and has enough weight to not be abusive with +p 230gr ammo.

I am looking at getting a compact/micro 45. This will be my carry weapon. Right now price is a problem I can afford $500-$600 out the door. I have been looking at the RIA Compact, High Standard Compact and SA GI Micro. I can get the High Standard for $460 and the GI for $550 from a local dealer. I am leaning towards the GI right now but had some concerns with it not feeding HP also I may want to add night sights down the road when I have more money is that something that will be difficult to do? Should I go with the GI or is there another 1911 out there that is better in the same price range?

I've gone through the same process. And I think the guns you mentioned will be fine except they are tanks, all of them. Tried an ATI FX Titan for a while and it is closely related to the RIA CS. But compared to my Kahr PM9 or CW9, it just wasn't comfortable. Don't need the lecture about comfortable vs comforting, thanks.

I think it will be well worth it to save up some more dough and get yourself an alloy frame 3 incher. I carry a Colt Defender and love it. Those that poo-poo the 3" 1911 are misguided, I think. Defender, New Agent, STI Escort, EMP - all good choices. Kimber? Lot's of belly-aching out there for that pricetag. But never owned one, just read others' opinions.

Besides, you'll probably blow another $200+ on mags, grips, sights, holsters, etc.
