I came across a virtually new Daewoo DH40 at my local range. I'm very interested in this pistol but one thing caught my attention. The slide racks too easily. It almost feels like a .22...well maybe not that easy, but close. Because it is a .40, a fairly high power pistol round, I expected something more akin to 9mm spring strength.

My question is; Is that normal for a DH40?

Anything else I should know or look for before buying?

I see that Daewoo is out of business now and parts are scarce, but this would be an occational gun, possibly the one I have for the wife's use, (if the slide racks so easily and is normal).

The gun looks almost new, comes with 5 mags, asking $400, which sounds high, but the mags offset the price a bit, I guess.

I have a fair amount of trigger time with one of these. A light slide action is normal. They are good, solid, and reliable. They are very user-friendly with a simple manual-of-arms (especially since they are tri-action), and they are as combat-accurate as any recent .40 service pistol. IT has a multi-coil spring and if I recall correctly when you rack the slide you are doing just that - racking the slide - you aren't compressing the recoil spring.

I don't think Daewoo Precision folded; I think they just got re-organized with the break-up of the Daewoo chaebol. They are the main ROK army supplier; they aren't going out of business! I don't know the current market price; I saw some doing $400 or better last year. If you could get it all for $350 that sounds like a good deal to me.

Nice pistol...I've had two DH40's. Sold one and the other is still in the family (sort of borrowed :)). Price sounds okay. Numrich still has parts, mostly for the 9mm, but many internals are interchangeable...
Hang on to the mags, many Daewoo owners looking for original mags...
BTW, I also have the DP51C in 9mm, so I'm familiar with Daewoo....:)
I hope their guns are better than their dreadful cars.
That's a good one.....

DaeWoo never went out of buisness, they just left the USA market.
Mostly due to the Federal '94 AWB.

DaeWoo has been making firearms since the late-'70s and been making electronics since the '80s and been making vehicles since the '90s.

DaeWoo is still the main arms supplier for the ROK military.

I've had a DH40 for about 13 years. Never had a problem, and never found a reason to replace it. Good size, comfortable grip, accurate, and the tri-action safety is a good selling point.

Some guys will bash them because of the name, but if the ROK Army trusts them, I think that's a pretty good testimonial.

I like mine, and never regret buying it.
