About six months ago I ordered a couple little keychains of what was marketed as Fox pepper spray. I'm wondering if it's really fox because it doesn't say anything on it at all. My buddy let me spray his arm and it didn't do anything at all, isn't it supposed to irritate the skin? If I have to make sure to get this stuff in someones eyes that's gonna suck...

Nevermind guys, it is fox. I just pulled the little canister out of the keychain. But seriously, shouldn't this irritate the skin? can the stuff go bad after six months?

Fox is good stuff. Try a small drop just under your eye. Not in your eye, let me know what you think.

I think they recommend replacing it every two years. I'm due.

Fox can irritate the skin, but it's much better at irritating tear ducts, nasal linings, lung tissue, that sort of thing.

One of my buddy's thinks that the best way to check is to spray some of it into the air, then walk through the cloud.

*shrug* I wouldn't try it, but whatever flips up your skirt.

There is a date code on the canister if you peel off the edge of the label at the base. It's pretty hard to read but it's there. I couldn't find the email I got from Fox quite a while back but I believe it is in "yearmonthday" format. In another words if it were manufactured today it would be 040402.

I've gotten slight spray in my face before (very slight). Very rough on the eyes and lungs, no skin irritation though.

TIP: Don't push on the (red) trigger when in "fire" mode to remove from keychain holder

From my understanding ( As always I could be wrong ) the replacement is due to the propellant leaking out. I believe that the problem is more severe with the smaller units. ( I would hate to replace the 1 pound unit I keep my be bedside every year :( )

Personally ( and this is JMHO ) I have stopped getting the keychain units. If I need to spray someone I want a lot of chances of getting them in the face.

Good Luck and may you never need pepper spray.
