Question about M94 Winchester...

Can you "top up" the magazine on a model 94 after chambering the first round? I know it I can do this on all I own or have owned Marlins (1894, 1895 & 336) but my M94 AE SRC Trapper (pre safety) doesn't let me add additional rounds to the magazine after you cycle the first round into the chamber. While the gun is a bit older not having any safety it is in as new condition and has probably less than 50 rounds through it.

Yes, as long as the bolt's closed. No problem with my Winchesters.

Two I have now are both Angle-Eject models with crossbolt safeties, one in .30-30, the other in .45 Colt. I just re-checked both, I can load the magazine all day long with a round chambered in both.
The .357 I had was so long ago I can't recall for certain, but I sure thought it worked the same way.
I didn't bother to check the '51 .30-30.

Does the lever have to be open to load it?

If so, that has to be the only 94 Winchester in the world that works that way!

Got it...

I tried it again a few times and noted that the loading gate seemed to be a smidge long, preventing it being depressed when the mag was loaded with 4 rounds and 1 in the chamber. I disassembled the action a couple times and used some emory cloth to polish, smooth and ever so slightly reshape the contour and length of the loading gate. It works fine now. I think the rifle being pretty much new played some effect in this but also the gate itself was a several thousandths too long to allow it to slide across the head of the
round beneath it, especially with a nearly full magazine having an increased pressure against that round. Thanks for the replys and if you have a problem like this give it a try, it is an easy DIY fix with a piece of medium to coarse emory cloth wrapped around a round screw driver and moved at about a 45 degree angle across the rear of the loading gate. Once you take the gate out of the gun you will see what I mean.
