Any other Levergun nuts out there?

Ask again when the Marlin 1894C in .357 Mag. I ordered finally gets in (Backordered). I had always intended on picking up one of the Winchester "Trappers" in .357 at some time...who would've guessed they would go out of business!!?? I loved the idea of the 16" barrel and compact size/weight. I have a feeling I'll be joining the "nuts" out there soon. I really like the feel of the Marlin 1894s. I handled an 1894 in .41 Mag at a gunshop recently and just loved the feel of it. I'm sure after the .357 I bought to pair up with my .357 revolver comes in I'll be aching for the .41 Mag to match my .41 revolver. Funny how "reasons" for buying new guns just keep coming up.

achildofthesky,I like all kinds of guns!

for me though,my Win94 30-30 will always be a special one,a Christmas present from my dad when I was 15.Still love to shoot that rifle.

Sad to say that more of my funds and attention have gone to firearms that are "get 'em while you can" like surplus, but through a refinance I got a Win 1886 takedown 45-70 and its one of those dream guns I wanted for so long.It just handles and feels like a riflemans rifle and being of some weight the recoil is not bad.

Im sure in the future there will be more levers going home with me.

Would love to get a Win 1895 .405 to keep the 1886 company

good pics everybody!

I only have a Guide Gun in 45/70 and a 94 in .45 Colt, but my dad has a 9422 that was the first rifle I ever shot. I've got my eyes on a Marlin Cowboy 45/70... I'd like to turn it into a sort of "American Express Rifle." No, not the credit card company. Think Africa.

Also, if I could get a Winchester 1895 in 30-06, I would be very, very pleased.

336

I got my first marlin in 30-30 two weeks ago. I am shooting up at sunnyval tommorrow with another THR dude. I am going to the desert to ride bikes for ten days next week. I will camp out there. The 336 will be my defense gun. and my detonics 9-11-01........

Wow, great to hear and see so much cool lever iron...

And another co-pilot to boot, excellent. Mine will get installed in my next chopper or starch wing if I go that route. Till then, just gotta love the big shove of that 45-70/457. To all thanks for the pix and insight into other "lever enthusiast's" pieces. I still like bolt gun's and others but I simply shakemy head in shame at the fact that with all of the 10 of thousands of rounds I have chucked downrange, I had never fired a levergun till about a year ago. Sheesh am I a dolt.... Though I am on the way to redeeming my self. Keep 'em coming. I still like the idea of the 454 puma I hefted. I reckon I might sell off the 30-30 marlin to help fund it... (Rationalization in process) Thanks again and keep 'em coming

I inherited an old Model 94 in .32 Win from my father-in-law when he died. Its a great little gun and its killed a couple of deer for me so far. I think the barrel or the muzzle is shot out because it isn't terribly accurate out past 50 yards or so.

My search for a pe-64 barrel has been less than successful.

Anyone know of any?

When it comes to guns, I'm way beyond afficionado. Unfortunately, "nut" about sums it up.

Anyway, Browning 92 in .357, one of my favorite guns of any type:

Recent production Winchester 1886 ExtraLight in 45-70:

Browning 53 in .32-20:

Although not often thought of that way, Browning and Ruger single-shots are lever actions too. Here's a Browning Low Wall in .22 Hornet:

I don't have a picture of my 2 9422's, or my Martini 12/15. I also was too late to buy the Sako Finnwolf recently on gunsamerica. Such is life.

I guess most of you know, but there's a forum just for levergunners at leverguns.com.

444

My 444 marlin may use 44 mag slugs but they are moving 1000fps. faster than the handgun ammo. No need for a spotter for 200 yard shooting, you can easily see the ground explode where the bullet hits. Have not used it for hunting yet but it should be a very good Elk gun in the Northeastern Oregon BLM lands.

thinned out a few but still have..

shot it

we shot my 336 today. I kept it all in the 6 ring or better at one hundred yards. No scope yet. And my 41 year old eyes are not perfect. But I think it is good enough for a brush gun. Or desert camp gun. I shot standing and from a table. I can hit it, If I can see it, I think. A man needs to know his limitations. That what Clint said anyway........Great little gun....

Still kicking myself for selling my .44mag 1894 Marlin a few years back. In a couple weeks I will console myself with a Henry .22 Lever action youth model. I like the compactness of the design.

<raises hand high, jumping up and down, smiling uncontrollably, :) :) :)
trying to be cool  but failing miserably, and not caring an iota.... >

<ahem>

Just discovered this thread.

Only read the first post.
Will read other posts later.

Posting now just to subscribe to the thead.

Nem <who is seeking a Marlin 336 (A, C, CS, or W) in .30-30 for his next rifle to replace
the long-lost 336 that he had to sell years ago...and who recently started this thread...>

Whoa!

FLtoAK05 (post 27),
please describe that bottom rifle.
Large caliber Marlin, I'd guess,
with an alt synth stock,
{where from, please?},
short barrel (length?),
forward scope {which one}
& big loop lever (!).

And welcome to THR!
You're gonna like it here. ;)

Where in AK?
(Prob'ly heading that way soon myself...)

As a southpaw, an LA or pump with an exposed hammer was the most practical option I had if I wanted a repeater back when I was a kid learning to shoot and hunt.

Another lefty lever-gun lover here. That aside, what impresses me about lever-guns is the connection to the past. My Marlin 1894c, with the exception of the safety and two-piece firing-pin, is like a time capsule from 1894. Can't beat forged, blued steel and American black walnut. Lever guns are some of the few guns they still make them like they used to.

Just in case anybody is intrested Big 5 has Marlin lever actions on sale this week for between $320-335.00 depending on where you live. 30\30 in pistol grip stock and .357 & .44 in straight stock. I called and the straight stocked ones are 1894's. Too bad the .357 only has an 18 1\2" barrel. If it was 22-26" I would run down and buy one.

Win 94 in .357 mag, Marlin in .44 mag and - am going to count as lever also my Ruger #1 - which makes hot 45-70's a blast, if not a tad painful :D

The Win 94 had high see-thru mounts when I got it and used a scope for a while - then tried a red dot. Really must change the mounts but they are drill and tapped fitted so, have sorta put up with them - tho it looks ugly. One thing, being a short barrel - very totable indeed.

I have a Winchester 94, 16" in .357 like P95's and a Marlin 1895 GS .45-70
that I would love to get some frost or diamond wood furniture for if I knew
where (for the Marlin not the Winchester).

Edit....
If it was 22-26

I would love to have a long octagon barreled Marlin.

achildofthesky, second one from the top.... where did you get the big loop from?

I just called my local Big 5. (I didn't even know we had one until I looked up their web page ... it's actually in the town across the river, but close enough...but I digress.)

Their price here is $334, and it's a 336A, which I haven't handled yet. (I've seen a C & a W so far.)

As luck would have it, they don't have one in stock, but would special order it for the same price.

I just picked up my first lever action rifle, a Marline 336 A, $299 at Dick's Sporting Goods with a 3-9x scope. Luckily the scope didn't come mounted because I didn't really want it on their anyway. I'm going to take it out and shoot it next weekend.

Nematocyst-870.

It was my understanding in talking to the salesperson at Big 5 the model number of the rifle was dependent on what caliber you wanted. 30\30 is the 336A and .357 or .44 is 1894. And in lookiing at the Marlin website this holds up.
