Question about military surplus rifles and recoil

I will say shooting a M44 Mosin carbine hunched over a bench rest touching off 203gr Brown Bear soft points can get old somewhat quickly.

Recoil is subjective though, for some reason I find my Enfield very unpleasant to shoot although it's not as bad for other people. I attribute it to the short stock, which fits some better than others and where you get into the subjective nature of perceived recoil.

I know its not a milsurp, but I wholeheartedly agree with the 12 ga 3.5 inch slug or buckshot out of a little 5 lb nef. I have a NEF turkey gun and thought it would be fun to try once. It really wasnt, but now the 3 inch shells dont feel quite so bad.

My Finn M39 Nagant is a sweet shooter standing or sitting. You know it's there for sure, but it's not bad.

Put that same rifle on a bench rest, hunch up on it and OUCH. :what:

Two shots like that was my limit and the slip on rubber baby buggy bumper came out. Still got a nasty yellow bruise from it.
