A good friend of mine is considering a job transfer to SoCal. I warned him that some of his toys, most notably his Bushmaster and preban Mini-14 w/flash suppressor, would probably not be allowed in. Nonsense, he says. He thinks he'd be allowed to keep his weapons with him when/if he moves.

I may be wrong, but I believe he'd be committing a crime if he took his rifles with him. He's looking into the matter...

So who's right?

I'm fairly certain he's SOL, and he can't legally bring in any hi cap mags

No new Bushies in this state but if he removes that muzzle brake, the Mini can come in.

Thanks to all for the replies. mgw1181, that link you provided was the proof I was looking for. I didn't realize how bad things were out on the West Coast! This may be enough to persuade my friend that an extra $30K/yr. won't offset the loss of his RKBA...

keep in mind, that depending where he lives in CA and depending where he came from, the cost of living difference can well be over 30k/year

$30k is a substantial chunk o' change to turn away. Better to take the money, live cheap and retire elsewhere where the $ goes farther. Heck, he can leave the Bushy with you.

that ruger can't have a pistol grip on it right?

just a plain stock, and have a "nose job" yea?

If he's moving from a state with no state tax, the 9% hit might make his 30K into nothing..

I wouldn't do it... It's not worth it..

You have to imagine my initial reaction

Moving to PRK?

My question (with apologies to Jim March, and the other good folks there)

WHY ? ? ? ? ?

Stay the hell out! You'll be glad you did. The nice weather is the ONLY good thing about California.

Please explain how you can place the words "live cheap" in a sentence concerning Los Angeles, or Southern California?

:)
