In articles comparing the Ruger Security 9 to the Smith and Wesson SD9, it is mentioned that they were similarly priced ($299) some time ago. Now I've noticed in the stores that the Ruger is still down at $329 while the S&W SD9 is $399.

Also, it was mentioned that the SD9 had a less-than-desirable trigger, but that replacement triggers can be gotten. It got me to wondering if the reason for the price hike of the SD9 is because the company improved it on their more recent guns. I haven't heard that to be the case, but was just wondering if anyone here knows if it is. I suppose it would justify the price hike. I know the price on everything is going up lately, but I mean in comparison to the Ruger Security 9.

Does anyone here have a S&W SD9 they got in the past year? Is the trigger better than it used to be, which is around 9 lbs.?

I have had my SD9VE for several years … I like the trigger .. its heavy .. yes ..but it has a predictable break .. The trigger doesn’t bother me .. anymore their is so much emphasis placed on triggers … I cut my teeth on DA/SA revolvers… so Im comfortable with the SD9 trigger .. I shot a Glock 23 with a New York trigger for years .. actually verywell
I guess I didn’t read about the heavy trigger and excessive recoil
My SD9VE is 100% reliable … accurate
And I actually have a safe full of handguns, literally
And my SD9VE is on my nightstand

I suggest if u are looking to buy a SD9VE
Is to look at a lowball bid on Gunbroker
Also the Taurus G3 is a great pistol.. for $260
Also the PSA Dagger is another option optic cut .. no extra buck

I just bought a SD9 with the FDE frame and black slide. I had an older SW9 and it. Had a horrible trigger even with an Apex one put in. Also shot a few SD9VEs over the years. Felt they should have went with a DAO system if it’s going to be that heavy, but I’m not running anything but my mouth.

About my newest SD9, it’s very shootable and well built. I’m a Trigger Queen and put a Galloway Precision trigger in it only, didn’t mess with the springs. Like the flat face triggers better, allows more room in the trigger guard and I’m just use to flat face triggers. Still a heavier trigger than other Striker Fired pistols but seems smoother. I put FO sights on it since I had a set and I wouldn’t hesitate carrying it if I carried a full size pistol all the time.

Not an M&P by no means, but I would grab another at $329 over a Taurus G3. Mainly due to having no safety and better finish, but the Taurus magazines seem more plentiful and slightly cheaper and take Glock sights.
