I have a Remington 7400 chambered in .270.
I inherited it from my Dad. (what a great shot he was)

I'm going to see how it performs this weekend. The last time it was shot was about 5 years ago.

Question: At what distance??? basically out to 150 yards. I'm thinking 100 yards. I'll be shooting from a bench, or prone.

Any thoughts??

THe ammo is off the shelf remington Core-Lokt. forget what gr.

If it has a scope, either take it to a gun shop or drag out your bore sighting kit.
Set your target up closer, 50 yards or so and see if you're putting it where it's supposed to go. Adjust, then move the target out further.

Wouldn't hurt to clean and lube it tonight.

here is the 130 and 150 grain sighted in at 150.
Short-Range Trajectory
Cartridge Type Bullet....................50 100 150 200 250 300
Remington® Express® 130 PSP CL..0.1 0.6 zero -1.8 -5.1 -9.8
Remington® Express® 150 SP CL....0.3 0.8 zero -2.4 -6.7 -13.0

I agree with bang bang. There are many possible combinations of sights or scope it could be. Scopes generally are set up so that 1 click equals 1/4 MOA, which is actually a geometric measurement that equals very nearly one inch at 100 yards. THEREFORE, if you shoot it at some kind of paper target bullseye at 50 yards, 1 click up or sideways equals 1/8 of an inch. If you try it at 50 yards, and find that it's already darn near dead center with three rounds, then take it out to 100 and see what happens. At 100 yards, every click should be 1/4 inch. Keep track of what direction and how many clicks you have gone, so that if you realize you are moving your point of impact the wrong direction, you know how many clicks to move it back to start over again.

Now I zero my .270 for 200 yards, which actually leaves it about 1/2 half inch high at 100 yards, which is perfectly acceptable for the hunting I use it for.

I'm not too picky about hitting bullseye or not, as long as I'm around 1 inch high on all my rifles I'm alright. In the .270, 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag (the calibers I use) 1 inch high at 100 puts me around zero at 200.

Thanks, guys.

Yes, it's nice and cleaned and lubed.

It is scoped. Not sure of make or power.

I'll plan on starting at 50 and moving out from there...
