in .270. For being the least expensive 700 that Remington makes, it is flat out a shooter. Quarter accuracy or better at 100 yds with Remington Core-Lokt Express 130 gr. Last weekend, I tried it with the Hornady .270 140 gr. Custom rounds and it was scary accurate. It is all black with the synthetic stock and parkerized (i guess) barrel.
If you are looking for a deer rifle (less expensive or not), you should definitely try to locate one. I would expect the 700 SPS to also perform well.
The furthest any deer have run is about 10 yds with this rifle. All heart shots. And I don't have an expensive scope on it either. Leopold VX-1 3x9x40.
It may not have pretty wood. But, I'll put it up against the pretty guns for accuracy.
