I am looking into building an AK-103, and have some questions. The only saiga i have is a .410 shotgun so i need some insight. Does the 7.62x39 Saiga have the AK-100 series bolt and carrier setup? As in, is the bolt interchangeable with an AKM, or an AK-74 carrier? (which one) Im going for having the gun chambered in 7.62x39, but with the AK-100 series updated bolt to carrier weight ratio and the solid gas piston (the bolt with the diffrent piston and the smaller rear portion) so is the saiga in 7.62x39 really a sporterized 100 series action? or are the bolt parts interchangeable with the regular ak-47/AKM guts. thanks for any insight

Also, what is that extra front trunion rivet on the Saigas? Whats the functional purpose?

I have a converted 7.62x39 Saiga and a 7.62x39 Romy G. The Romy uses a longer gas piston than the Saiga. I think the Saiga uses the shorter AK-74 piston.

Ok thanks, thats good info. What about the bolt itself? is it also the smaller shanked ak-74 type, or the fat regular akm type like on your romy g?

What im trying to corner is if the 7.62x39 guns ever got their bolt carrier updated to the AK-74m setup

As sarduy mentioned...post on the Saiga Forum...they have a sub-forum devoted just to the 7.62.
