Re. Question for New York Pistol Owners

I applied for my pistol license on the 24th of June of 1993. By the time I got
the postcard in the mail advising me to pick up my license, exactly five & a half
months passed. I picked it up from the Yaphank police headquarters in December of 1993.
Right now, I am living in Tulsa Oklahoma, having just moved down here on the 26th of October of 2003.
My Suffolk County license was NOT full carry, like CCW. When I applied, I made sure to put down 'Target' on the license. That enabled me to at least take my firearms unloaded, to the shooting range for target practice.

At least here in Tulsa, I now have my full CCW license.
Stay safe & aim true... from the Long Island Okie....

Hello. First post here. I was wondering how long it took for any other fellow New Yorkers to receive their permit. I live in Broome County and applied for the Hunting/Target pistol permit. If you could share your experience I would appreciate it. Thanks

Since this thread was resurrected, I'd like to report on Otsego county.
After all my references finally sent their sheets in, it took 11 days before I recieved my permit, unrestricted. A few months after CCWing regularly, the scheduled CCW course came and went no problems.

greatfull ex New Yorker

my brother is a cop in westchester and was in the nypd as well, in 20 years of police work he said there was maybe one or two times he came across a legal CCW.

It's so different in America then NY, here in Reno I was in a gun shop and a college girl was shopping for pistols. Not only did she have no permit but she had no clue. She had her finger on the trigger and had it pointing at the store dog, I knew they didn't say anything to her because they wanted her to buy it-but I couldn't help my self and I asked her to stop...she said it was unloaded and I told her there is no such thing...she smiled and said "I've heard that some where", any way she paid they did a background check right there and she walked out the door with her pistol in a shopping bag with some ammo!

I allready had pistols but I bought an AR15 at a gun show and walked out with it and a case of ammo. I have an m1a and a lever action, all I needed was cash.

what they are doing to New Yorkers makes CA seem like a bastion of conservative common sense.

I pray some day a real 2nd A case will get thru to the scotus and make those lowlife socialist sqirm.

onondaga county, 6 months, but would have been like 3 if I didn't have to find two new references. full carry , no restrictions.

Westchester County, make you buy the gun first and then apply. Applied Nov 2 2005 and was approved on DEC 26 2005 FAST! They sent me the post card to pick up my permit on Jan 6th and I got around to it a week or so later. Very professional and courteous service WOW! Restrictions are target and hunting. I know a friend with full carry but he works in the buildings dept and so knew the right folks to get unrestricted.

Tough for us general citizens.:banghead:
