Is the SU-16 legal in NYS? I would think the "C" model would not be as it has a threaded barrel, and folding buttstock (that can still be shot when folded).

But the previous "A" & "B" models cannot be shot when the buttstock is folded, it has no pistol grip, nor bayonet lug. But does the NYS AWB care, or is a "folding stock" a folding stock whether or not the gun is functional in the folded position?

Not from NYS but from CAlif.

The SU-16 A & B are NOT folding stock firearms. They are folding action firearms which is why they cannot be fired when folded. As such they are ok in Calif where the SU-16 C is not.

I suspect it may be similar for NYS.

In NYS, you can own the folding-action, no-flash-suppressor version. ...not to be confused with the folding-stock (fireable while folded) version.

Can't speak for NYC beyond: yer screwed. Leave.

I've got the SU-16B. While it may be legal per the letter of the law, if an Anti ever sees what it looks like, especially with the integrated bipod, and being an EBR, they'll find some way to get it banned.

Personally, I love my little Kel-Tec.

Where are you going to shoot it? I can't find any place in the NY metro area to shoot a .223 semi auto rifle.

From the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association

An "assault weapon" means (a) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following characteristics: (i) a folding or telescoping stock; (ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (iii) a bayonet mount; (iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; (v) a grenade launcher
You'd have to permanently attach a muzzle brake [silver solder]. Or buy the SU-16 A and refit it with the type C stock.

secamp32 - there is one more range I know of, also on LI but not as far out as Calverton. Huntington range, off route 110, less then an hour drive from Brooklyn. I just went there last weekend. They allow any rifles, but "no rapid fire and no more then 5 rounds loaded at one time".
Let me know if you need their contact info.

Alex.

Yes, it is public (I think it is county operated). The fee (for a day) was about $10 - 15, can't remember exactly.
50 and 100 yard for rifle, bench shooting only. Range officers are really vigilant at enforcing safety rules, but otherwise generally nice guys, go out of their way to be helpfull.
