I am ordinary Joe - no FFL. How do I ship a gun or guns to an out of town buyer? I have never done this, and I need your help in order that I do it properly. Step by step instructions would be helpful. Your help is greatly appreciated.

First, the gun will need to go to the buyer's FFL.

Long guns may be shipped using UPS or Fedex or USPS. You may not ship a handgun via USPS if you are not an FFL, but Fedex and UPS usually require that handguns be shipped overnight, which is fairly expensive. It may be cheaper to have your dealer ship a handgun using USPS than to use Fedex or UPS.

Some dealers will accept guns from individuals, others will not. You'll need to check with the buyer's FFL to see what their policy is.

Seeing as how you're from Texas, are we talking out-of-town or out-of-State?
(Years ago I discovered that it can take a couple of days to get out-of-State if you head North from Corpus Christi.:D)

Get a copy of the receiving FFL license - from buyer.

Box up firearm packed to protect from identification as a firearm and to keep bolt, etc from poking through the box. Enclose a bill of sale.

Address the package to the receiving FFL.

Proceed to the nearest UPS hub - not a UPS store.

Tell the counter person you are shipping a firearm and show them the FFL license copy if requested to verify the address.

If it is a long arm then you may ship it ground. If it is a hand gun you will have to ship express overnight.

For Austin the UPS hub is off 290 East.
