A friend recently gave me a JC Higgens model 583.23 bolt action 12

This is a Hi Standard from what I can find and even though out of the recall range by model number, it has the same defective bolt stop and was probably recalled also...This was done by sending in the bolt for a refund leaving a ton of these around missing the bolt...

I've searched everywhere I can think of for a bolt as the rest of the gun is very nice but with no luck...

Two real questions, does anyone know of a possible source for a bolt and if not, does anyone know how to remove the Multy-Choke from the barrel so I can use it on another shotgun....

Is it screwed on or is it sweated on...I just can't tell by looking and don't want to destroy it in removal....I think it might be nice to be able to choke down my short barrel mossberg, just for the doing of it basically....

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Gunbroker is a decent source for parts. I bet you'll pay out the nose though, since many of these same bolts were sent in for gift cards.

I have one that someone gave me and found a parts list and a source for parts I will try and post a link later on if I can remember the name of it. I think the Hi Standard site has some good info on these guns and the recalls.
