I have been using hs-6 for my 40 and 45, now I want to use it for 9mm. My plan is 115 fmj rainier bullets mixed cases. What has been the best load and oal.
Any data appreciated.

When working up a load with the Ranier 115 Gr RN with HS-6, equal charge weights with the Ranier and the Hornady jacketed RN both loaded to 1.130 to 1.135 OAL, gave almost identical velocities with both bullets as I worked up towards my manual's max.

Start low and be careful.

Check accurate's online data (Western Powders 5.0 PDF, or the old Accurate 3.5 PDF), as they have some 9MM plated data now.

How about it HS-6 fans, any help here?

Welcome to the forum. You came to the right place, these guys are way beyond "knowing their stuff". They will speed your transition into becoming a reloading nerd! Im eager to see the thread because HS6 is on my want list for 9mm.

I haven't used it, but I know several guys who shoot 9mm Major that only use HS-6.

Not that this info helps you in any way. :D

I use HS6 for my 9MMs, my load is 7.0 grs under a 115 gr plated bullet. The book shows this being a max load, it isn't in my various 9 mm guns. I would suggest you start a bit lower and work up. BTW, for me, this is a very accurate combination.

HS6 is my favorite powder for 9mm. I use 6.9gr and OAL of 1.135". Your results may vary. I also like it with 147s.

I have also been messing around with HS6 and 9mm. I used 4.8 grains set to 1.150" under 147 grain plated and shot from a Glock 19 was a very mild recoil. I am now using 7 grains under 115 grain plated set to 1.148".

I'm a huge fan of HS-6. Sorry, I don't load 115gr bullets in the 9mm but for an occasional box of 115gr FMJ bullets for my son. I use W231/HP-38 for that ammo. When I load a powder other than W231 in the 9mm, as much as it hurts me to admit it, I get better accuracy from Longshot than HS-6 but that's with a 124/125gr bullet, not a 115gr bullet.

IMO you can do very well with HS-6 in the 9mm, I just can't help you with data, sorry...

With Rocky Mountain 115 plated round nose I've found 6.8 grains of HS-6 results in slightly less than 1200 fps and fairly accurate out of my M&P 9 and the wife's Glock 19 gen 3.

The rainier should be good up to 1200fps though I have not tested them that hot. But I have shot a ton of HS-6 in 9mm 6.1 -7.1 with a COAL of 1.115. HS-6 works great in hi pressure rounds like 40 and 9mm. I have found my 9mm loads to be most accurate at about midway to the upper range please work to the upper range very carefully. HS-6 does a great job and will suit you well in 9mm but Power Pistol has become my go to for it. I really would like to have SR4756 you talk about nice shooting but I can never find that powder.

So in order for me it is
Power Pistol
HS-6

Prefer SR4756 but good luck finding that.

Yes sir it has proven more accurate in my shield and S&W 940 revolver but PP is very close as well as HS-6. Again this is for accuracy not velocity. For velocity PP has the edge.

I've loaded a lot of HS6 for both .40 and 9mm for quite a long time, love it. Velocities were very good, and I haven't ever had any issues with pressures either.

Start low, and work up. I've worked up to max without having problems, but I'm not suggesting that anyone ever start higher then published start charges. And then work up in small increments to avoid a sudden high pressure situation.

Thanks all. I am pretty pleased with it so far. I am using 6.7 gr and a col of 1.30 and it is working well. I do not have a chrono yet, on the list but accuracy is good or consistent would be a better choice as it depends on the shooter, lol Thanks for all the help.

Oop's, I some how missed my previous comment, but I'll add that I don't like the short charge table, which is my only issue with HS6. But even so, it has never spiked at the high end.

ArchAngleCD, I have to agree with you. I've had better accuracy with heavier doses of Longshot also. I worked up to a maximum load for 9mm with Longshot and it proved to be very accurate in all my 9mms, especially my Shield.

(I know how much you like HS-6 so saying that had to hurt somewhat.)

Agreed, there's a very short load range for 115gr. It made me think twice about using it, but I've never seen any pressure signs with any of my HS-6 loads.

I also enjoy HS-6 with a 95gr bullet. It's just fun. Fairly accurate too.

Actually Arch, I prefer Longshot over HS6 as well. But HS6 didn't give me any problems really, it just seemed a to have a tendency to get spikey at upper end velocities, unlike LS. At mid table or less, it ran smooth and cycled the actions just fine.

I agree, HS-6 isn't a problem, I just find Longshot to be a little more accurate. If LS was unavailable I could easily live with HS-6. (especially since I'm a huge fan of HS-6/W540)

HS-6 is currently my favorite 9mm powder. Very forgiving powder which cycles well, burns reasonably cleanly. I use it to push 124gr RMR plated RN.

Are you using a magnum primer in those loads?
Are your charge weights up near the top of the range?

HS-6 is my go to for my UZI clone with rem5 1/2 primers and 115 FMJ , I run them through my P89 too
