i see these popping up everywhere! there's a bunch of them at my local gun show every month and i have at least 3 online sources where i can get a great deal on one. and from everything i've heard and read, they're great guns. but what's the deal with those ugly shiny black checkered plastic grips? even the nicest ones i've seen are still cheap looking/hideous. a quick search shows that pachmyer made grips for the pistol for a while and as far as i can tell hogue doesn't make one. do they? are there any other options for me if i were to buy one? maybe from the sig factory?

I would like to know about the grips, too. Maybe, just maybe, my wife might let me get one for my birthday this weekend.

I am actually quite fond of those grips, they aren't the greatest looking by any means, but they do their job and are relatively thin.

With the flood of P6's in the market, grips for the P6 and the P225 are very hard to find.

If you do find a set, you'll pay a premium for them. Hogue does not make them (yet?) and Pachymyer doesn't make them anymore.
You can expect to pay anywhere from $50 for a used set or up to $100 for a NIB set of Pachymyers.
Sile made wood grips, but they are also very hard to find.

The best place to find grips is either on eBay or in the Sig Foum classifieds.

They may be ugly, but I like the shape, they are downright sensual in my hand. I would not change them for something prettier that was not as comfortable a fit.

I doubt the German Police were much concerned with beauty.

More concerned with durability, utility & function.

It was a combat gun after all, and for that, the black plastic grips are very hard to improve on.

Try 'em for a while before you decide to change them out. I did ...and decided that those old ugly grips are stayin'.

I have had Pachymyer grips on a couple SIG Sauer pistols I bought used. They interfered with the hammer decocker, which may be why I got good deals on them...I prefer the originals. Just my 2 cents.

Pachmyr has a batch being produced in September, you can pre order for $40, it's going to be their only run, ever, according to their site.

thanks for the input. i don't doubt that the grips on them work fine but i just like that hogue feel. i have it on my 226 and 229. i'll play with one more when i get to handle it again.

you could always go "top shelf" and getn Nils wood grip or the Hogue Extreme Aluminum.

i did just order one of the limited run of Pachmayr rubber grips

Stock grips on my P6 were fine, although I grabbed a $5 hogue slip-on grip to fatten it up a little. Sigforum.com has two members producing wooden grips for anywhere between $50 and $85, depending on what wood you choose. One of them is Marschal grips as listed above, the other you may have to search the classifieds.

Now having a 229 with rosewood grips and replacement hogues -- the P6 definitely doesn't compare, but I wouldn't call them uncomfortable!

Well

The Sig has some moving parts external to the frame. So basically the grips have to be CNC machined to clear these moving parts. That's why 225/P6 are hard to find, and expensive when you do. Gotta love that superior Teutonic engineering.

If you choose the right kind, think rattle can spray paint! You can have any color grips you want and change colors anytime you have the urge.

I think this week I'll have ivory girps, no on second thought how about ebony?
