With the recent photo's of a "Camo" finished SIG-SAUER
P228, my question regarding this decision centers around
our fine friends over in Germany. Do we know if the camo
finish is applied at the German plant; or is that something
that SIGARMS is doing to some weapons being
received upon importation?

For the life of me, I can't see our German allies destroying
such handsome weaponary; ie: the P220, P225, & P228!
Here in the good ole U.S. of A, not many hunters hit the
woods with a SIG self-loader in the first place. So, they
can't come with a bunch of BS about catering to all of
the "American hunter's". Just my thoughts and opinions.

Ala Dan,

When I sent my camo 228 back it was explained to me that the pistol would have to be sent out of state to wherever (she didn't say) they had the finish applied. It would take a month to do that, so thats when I asked them if they would just strip the camo off and give me back a standard blue finish instead. She said that could be done in Exeter so thats what I thought was being done. A few weeks later and I still didn't have my 228 back. When I called once to check on it I was told they had to send it out of state anyway and then when it got back it ran into the holiday hussle(Christmas). I had also been talking with the man working on my 228 in the Custom Shop. Originally I was going to get the standard blue with nickeled small parts and short trigger. Then in the course of a discussion with this Custom Shop man I found out he could get me an M11 slide and barrel which I wanted more. The frame with US M11 markings was a no-go though since that technically makes it "Government Property". I was finally told 2 weeks till I got my pistol back, but there was a problem concerning the machines that apply the finish there in Exeter. Thats when they said instead of me waiting more (total time had been just over a month at this point) they would just send me a whole new pistol instead.

BTW, the standard blue finish is under that camo job. When you take one down you can clearly see its not anywhere on the inside of the pistol, or the rails. But however they got the camo job off it still appearantly had to be refinished, hence my long wait. But I just want to say that even though there were alot of problems with this finish getting corrected, SIG was 100% super nice and very easy to work with. Great customer service!:)

Thanks for the detailed report on your SIG P228; as
I'm glad all worked out well. Its seems strange that
a big oufit like SIGARMS would have to send out a
weapon for refinishing?

I couldn't get the link you provided to open up; if
you would be so kind as to give me a brief intro, I
will see if I can find it over on the SIG forum.

Naw, I haven't seen that special limited ediiton P226 that
honors the Navy Seal Teams. Looks like they would have
wanted a Trident on the slide; more so than a anchor?
And that one P226 with serial # NSW 0911 should become
a "safe gueen"! :uhoh: :D

Ala Dan,

The anchor is what has always been on the SEAL P226s, they never had the Trident. There was alot of confusion about that on the sigforum. ToddG, who works for SIG and posts on the sigforum, stated that the particular one in those pics with the sn 0911 is being presented to a gentleman that had alot to do with the recovery efforts at the WTC. They also put night sights on it for him. The others will have standard sights.
