Hello all. I have a quick question about Sig Sauer slides. So long story short I want to change out the slide on my P220. The problem is I'm not sure if the new generation slides that Sig is currently selling on their website will fit my gun. I have a West German manufactured P220 that was made in 1989 and I know that Sig has made a few changes to their handguns since that era. A guy I know on another forum told me that it would work and even sent me a pic of his P220 that has a 1987 frame with a newer production "ST" slide mounted on it. I then called Sig themselves and some young guy that answered the phone told me straight up that it wouldn't work. So I am pretty confused right now. Can anyone on here shed light on this subject? Thanks in advance!

The "Rule-of-Thumb" is that it won't work...my 220ST slides certainly won't go onto my W German 220 frame...the dimensions were a bit "off"

That doesn't mean that the new slides will "never" go on an older frame, just that the odds are that they will not.

Just curious, why would you want to replace your folded slide with a stainless one?

Oh no I don't want to replace it with a stainless slide I was just using that as an example. I wanted to swap my slide out with the current production slide that Sig has on their website. But it sounds like I may be SOL. haha

What's the difference between "replacing" and "swapping" slides on the same frame?

Perhaps a more succinct question would be, what do you hope to gain by using a stainless slide in place of the folded one

Basically the slide I currently have has a fixed front sight that cannot be removed and I wanted to "swap" out this slide for a newer slide with dovetailing on the front sight.

Ah, that is a 1st Gen 220 slide, the 2nd Gen slides, still folded/stamped, all had a dovetailed front sight

The frames were strengthened in the mid-90s for +P ammo...that is the fitment issue you may run into

I'd see what a gunsmith can dream up in terms of installing a new front sight before I'd go trying to replace the slide, especially in this situation.
