Hey guys and gals.

There is a S&W 19-3 for trade locally and I'm thinking of making an offer.
I have a Sig 2022 in .40 that I rarely shoot and am on a huge revolver kick right now. Would this be a fair trade in your opinions?

Here is a photo. It's not a good one. I don't know if it is a lighting issue or if something is jacked up with the finish. I'm thinking of asking him to email me some better pics.

What do you think?

Yes more pics,,Model19s are blued, It looks more like a model 66. (same)

I say good trade as long as you'd thorough physical inspection.

Some areas I pay attention to are..

"listen to and watch cylinder timing
"inspect forcing cone
"inspect hand
"inspect barrel
"Inspect screw heads
"Does it rattle

I like my Sig but my thought is that they 2022s are a dime a dozen but reasonably priced Smith revolvers are getting scarcer and scarcer.

A nickle Model 19 would have a case hardened trigger and hammer. The gun in the photo looks like it has stainless. The finish looks like the gun got rusty and pitted and someone spray painted over it.

I wouldn't consider that revolver unless I could examine it in person.

If that gun really looks like the picture I wouldn't take it any price/trade. Better ones available every day.

Looks like abused nickel to me. Poorly polished along with case colors polished off hammer/trigger.

Here's a little better pic. He says it is from the 70s and does have some minor scratches in the finish but no rippling of the nickle.

Oh well. We shall see when and if we meet up. I certainly will not go through with it if it looks like crap in person.

The barrel is pinned I can tell that much, it is a model 19 in a not so good nickel polish some metal polish like flitz or mothers mag will buff it back to a shine.

The hammer and trigger should be case colored but they appear to be the flash chrome they used in the 80s, the cylinder release appears to be off a blue model 19 or other blued k frame. I can't tell at all if the cylinder is recessed if it was the cartridges would fit flush into the cylinder.

Overall if it locked up right and everything checked out right mechanically I'd trade an everyday sig 2022 for it in a heartbeat and change out the parts accordingly.

I do not know how you value your Sig, however I recently sold a pristine 19-3, blued, 6 inch barrel, box and papers for $750. If this revolver is not as you want it, then wait, others are available.

The sig is at 400-500 in my area. Factoring in about 3-5 bucks for polish and "if" he wanted to put more original parts on he still comes out ahead.

Arkansas Paul if I were you I'd pounce on it!!! Just remember to check out our local revolver checkout sticky so you don't get duped.

The finish on that revolver looks horrible, I would pass on it and never look back. If the finish is bad what else is wrong with it. The rear site doesn't look right either.

Almost looks like the gun has been painted. The rear site should not be nickel. Believe me that gun has been Bubba'd.

NO NO No

Pretty much all of the older Smith and Wesson's have become collector items for a simple reason, They look, almost like a work of art. They function beautifully and the original factory finish was spectacular.
This one doesn't meet any criteria for a good SW in any way shape or form.
They are not very common in the market place but PLEASE wait for the right one to come along. It will!
You will be glad you waited.

Walk away. That thing looks like it was rode hard and put up wet. The black cylinder. release is a giant red flag. Finish looks rough and the trigger and hammer are wrong.

I'm an ignorant fool. But I know S&W revolvers.

Yeah, I got excited about a Smith, but I don't know come here from sic em about them.
That's why I relied on you guys for your expertise.

I believe I'll tell him I've had a change of heart if he attempts to set up a meeting.

Thanks guys.
