I have no personal experience with CZ pistols myself, but I have only heard great things on this and other gun related sites. I'm still contemplating my next gun purchase and trying to narrow down the field a bit. CZ wasn't on the list originally, but after hearing so much about them and doing some digging I think it'd be wise to give them a serious look.

I'm still debating on going with a smaller/compact/lightweight semi-auto or revolver for my next purchase as a CCW. I love my 1911 but it can be pretty hefty for summer carrying. Anyway I'd like some thoughts or advice between the CZ 2075 RAMI, 75 Compact, and P-01 models. All those look like they'd be great guns and get the job done. I'm mostly looking at 9mm right now. I'd at least like to narrow it down to one CZ model for my list of potential choices before I'm ready to buy. Thanks for any info you can offer!

If you are going for lighter and compact-er, I would probably say the RAMI, especially since it sounds like you are fine with the cocked-locked style of carry. Ten rounds ought to be plenty. Still gonna be a bit heavy though for a pocket piece. CZs are great guns, especially for the price (though they are going up).

(unsolicited advice), I like the Kahr K9, compact, easy to shoot, and in a pinch, a k9 will fit most 1911 holsters, even with thumbsnap.

Love my P-01, though if your primary concern with the pistol in question is pure CCW, the RAMI probably is the best bet. P-01 is kind of like the Glock 19 -- big enough for use as a service pistol, can also work concealed carry, sort of a generalist size/design.

So RAMI can be cocked and locked?? I think that's one problem solved then, sounds like that will the the CZ I put on my list hehe.

I have seen the Kahr's also and they are pretty cool, I plan on trying one out sometime at the range when I get a chance.

I thought you had researched it some, anyways, the Compact (steel frame) and RAMI are frame mounted safeties that allow C-L carry, and require pulling the trigger to decock for double action. The PO1 is basically a Compact with alloy frame, accessory rail, and a decocking lever. Like Horsesoldier said, the Compact/PO1 is more of a compact duty pistol, and I do not think it will give you much better concealment over the 1911 (shorter and shorter, but wider grip).

the P01 would not be an optimal carry weapon IMO. I'm sure many people do so don't all yell at me at once. The PCR (P01 without rail) would make a much more slim carry weapon. I love mine.

yeah I did but wasn't really paying attention to carry conditions etc was just looking mainly at size, weight, dimensions, capacity that sorta thing. I'm fine with whatever condition they can be carried in pretty much, that's not a deal breaker for me.

They just came out with an polymer-framed RAMI this year that's a little bit lighter (but not much). It also has adjustable sights...

I will also point out that the excellent .22LR Kadet Kit slide conversion fits on the RAMI as well.

Good point there about the .22 kit. Didn't even think about that! Might be something to consider.

Compact Owner

I bought a CZ75 Compact a few weeks ago and love it. I have meaty hands and kinda short fingers and have to grip the compact with my second and third fingers with the fourth riding under the mag. The first joint of the trigger finger just fits when firing in double action and is easier for every shot after that as the trigger shortens up when in single action. The manual safety is just where it should be for my hand and is easily manipulated. The first time out, I was shooting 3" groups at thirty feet but they were very low and left. I was very disappointed and thought the sights were way off (it couldn't have been my skills :uhoh: ). I called CZ-USA and spoke to their custom shop smith. He told me the low left hits were normal and was very diplomatic by not mentioning that I was a lousy shot. He told me to shoot the gun and if the problem persisted, they would work with me. I took it to the range this afternoon and went through 200 rounds and was amazed. For whatever reason, (ammo choice, etc.) it shot true and right on point of aim. You won't be disappointed if you buy one.

I own the new-for-2007 Rami-P with the polymer grip/frame. It's lighter than the standard Rami and it comes with two mags; the standard 10-round for carry and an extended 14-round mag for the range. The 14-rounder extends the grip length to a comfortable size for range use.
Yes, you can carry cocked and locked but after owning Sigs for years, I'm much more comfortable carrying in double-action mode for the first shot with no safety to get in the way. While the Rami's have no decocker, there are instruction in the manual on how to safely/manually decock the gun for DA/SA carry.

Awesome gun by the way, I just wish the Rami-P had more stippling or checkering on the grips. Otherwise, no complaints.

I have carried my PO1 both open and concealed, and with a proper holster, there is no issue with my slightly wide frame on concealment. I use a Bianchi M-100 IWB, with good results. It is a fantastic pistol, and has never bobbled for me with factory ammo. The CZ-2075 RAMI is a great pistol that my wife is very fond of, and carries in an HBE Specialty Leathworks COM III rig, very comfortably.
But, I may show some slight bias towards CZ....

I love my P-01, but it is a bitch to carry in the hot Texas weather. I can shoot the dickens out of it, and do ragged holes at 25 yds one handed without trying. I wish it was a little lighter and shorter and it would be perfect. I carry in winter with a coat with no problem though...

armoredman, about your Bianchi M-100:

What size is it (10 or 11)? The Bianchi website says the size 10 part #19230 fits the CZ 75 compact, but I don't know if it will fit with the P-01 rail. The size 11 #19234 fits a Glock 19, and that might be more analogous to the size of a P-01.

Well here is an update. I liked the sound of the RAMI but yesterday i finally got to see some CZ's for the first time up close and hold them. I really like the feel of all of them, but the RAMI grip is simply too small for me. I did try the P01 and loved it though. I want to go with a smaller gun but won't go TOO small to be comfortable.

P01 is a fine pistol. My wife and I each carry one. I also just picked up a SP01 Tactical... am quite pleased thus far.

I own a CZ P-01. The only drawback I have found is finding a good IDPA approved holster for it. Forget about injection molded or kydex specifically for the P-01.

There are a few manufacturers that make em, but I don't like buying stuff over the net and haven't found one locally. Using a cheapo uncle mikes for now that I previously had just so I have a holster at least.

Other then the holster problem I absolutely love the pistol itself.
