^ Oh, that's a great one, C.R. I'm a science guy (educator), so that's gonna be fun. ;)

Also, I was not paying attention last night (while trying to find that image of the Wesserunsett River, ME, trib to and just upstream from the great Kennebec), so I missed this from USAF Vet:

#3. If 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything, what is the actual question? Second part of this question, why is it I can't get the hang of Tuesdays?
Made me smile real big. :)

Of course, the question must involve rifles in some way to be legit here. :D

C.R.,

28 has been asked and answered every 6 months for the past 10 years, but it is a general ballistics question applicable to arrows, ARs and Astra.

A- Yes.

B- Depends upon whether you were subject to gravity of a planet or not since it won't slow due to drag, but would "drop" due to gravity. No gravity, no drop. Therefore, until it hits something.

Furncliff,

Multiply the drop in the equation by the fraction of standard gravity for those heavy gravity days since the the acceleration of gravity is linear in the equation. (1 vs 1.05 for 5% heavier days).

Ok then, if 42 is the answer to the ultimate question, would a .42 caliber cartridge be the ultimate rifle round?

I'm wondering the same.

Bigger than .41, smaller than .44, let alone .44 mag.

Could be ...

I believe the longest kill shot on record is with a .338 Lapua.

quick search yields:

Firearm: Accuracy International L115A3
Ammunition: .338 Lapua Magnum LockBase B408 bullets
