im not sure ill even make the dive but im thinkining about ether a Romanian PSL or Russian Vepr both in 7.62x54R. on the vepr i could be talked out of the 54r chamber in favor of the 308. id only favor the 54r due to the current cheap ammo

im not possitive about afew things tho:

is a 23' barrel vepr going to produce significantly better groups at say 200 yards then the standard PSL?

iv read PSL's arnt ment for shooting heavy ball. can a vepr shoot heavy grain loads?

i love the look of the PSL, are there after market stocks that mimic the PSL look for the vepr?

does anyone have any information related to ether platform you like to share

lastly what kind of groupings are these rifles capable of?

Yes, they can take heavy ball ammo.
Yes, they will be more accurate, and it eliminates the craps-shoot that the accuracy between PSLs is, and the heavier barrel will not heat up as fast.
Black Horse Arsenal will be making their black adjustable synthetic SVD stock and polymer forend for the VEPR.

If I'm not mistaken, PSLs are meant to shoot LB. It works out well as most people shoot cheap surplus ammo and it's LB. VEPRs should handle LB and HB.

For what it's worth, I'd take a VEPR over a PSL any day of the week. PSL are inflated due to limited supply and are starting to exceed their worth. VEPRs can be had for less than $900.00. Their only limitation seems to be the poorly-thought-out 5-round mags, but I hear that 10-rounders will be available.

Not sure if this helps, but I plan on selling my PSL to pick up a Vepr.
I think the vepr is a step above the Saiga, and I really love the Saiga
line of rifles.

I got a Saiga .308 and converted it... so many more options... high capacity mags for .308.. perfect for hog hunting... I do love the look of the PSL also...
