Ok. Long story short. For no good reason I allowed my cpl license to expire in december. So I have just paid and delivered application at county building. According to the michigan state police faq"s Michigan law says a renewal is always a renewal even if you let your license expire. According to them A) I dont have to have fingerprints taken if they were taken after July 1 2006. This is true in my case. B) one does NOT have to reappear to the gun board if they re applying within 2 years of the expiration date of the last llicense. Mine expired this december. So why does macomb county not understand this? The lady at the county building said I needed the prints done again because my license expired, she is wrong according to michigan police faqs. which quotes state law. The state police should still have them. I go to police station to get finger prints. lady takes them, then says ok gun board will contact you for the interview! I hope she is wrong.I should not need to go in front of the gun board on a renewal. She also said in regards to the finger printing issue, I quote "somtimes the county does a lottery for handing out finger print request" What? Thats not state law. I knew I was in for it when I first walked up to the county building cpl counter and the lady asked for my training certification! After I filled out a RENEWAL. I had to inform her that I dont need the certification on a renewal, I just need to sign a section in regard to "reviewing it, she says ok. Am I just dealing with some bafooons or is macomb county unecessicarily being difficult? Any one else have the county just disregard state law. I hope the gun board follows the right procedure at least and issues my "RENEWAL" in the timely fashion they are supposed to.

As far as not appearing before the gun board because it's a renewal, I wasn't aware of anything in Michigan state law that said the gun board couldn't call you up to appear for a new license or renewal if they wished to do so. It's one of the few powers the gun boards have left.

Looking at the MSP CPL FAQ I don't see where it says what you say it says about not having to appear before the board for a renwal either.

As to the fingerprint thing, looks like you are right there though.

When I had let my permit lapse in WA state, the biggest issue was the price differentail between renewal and new. I think it's $10 different, big woop. As for the fingerprinting, ummmm they already had them from the 1st time. At least this time they had a new digital scanner, so NO ink to clean off my fingers. My "new" permit came in less than 4 business days, and said renewal. Oh shucks.

Well here in Wayne County Mi. The gun board wants to see you every time you renew so they can hunt for a reason to deny you having the permit.

I don't know where I got the 2 year thing. Its not on the faqs were I thought I read it so I"ll assume I'm wrong on that but I will say at least the fingerprint thing is right. The impression I got was a sort of shame on you for letting your license expire now pay the piper attitude which sucks. The sole reason we have to renew these things in my opinion is to raise revenue for the state. They have your record so why else the hoops and the wait? It should be at least a lifetime license or better yet constitional carry. Per the second amendment.
