I recently purchased a new S&W 627 performance center (5 inch barrel 8-shot .357..) and yet to fire it.
Anyways I was dry firing it in single action and double action.
The single action pull is as crisp as breaking moms favorite Christmas ornament.
The double action pull is about 280 pounds.

So the question: is the double action pull supposed to be extremely heavy?

My thoughts were it being a "Performance Center" I would imagine the double action pull would be lightened and smoothed out.

My 627 was light in double action and buttery smooth. My 625 very awkwardly heavy but smooth. Both n frames from the PC. If in doubt send it back.

I swear I have the worst luck when it comes to QC. Thanks for the answers.

You're going to have to quantify "extremely heavy"

I've always found the trigger pull of Performance Center pistols very smooth, by not unusually light in DA...but then I have spent a lot of time around guys who shoot 627s that have been worked over by Apex Tactical Specialties

Agreed. Not knowing your experience with revolvers, I'll point out that the DA trigger is gonna be significantly heavier than the SA trigger. So, without knowing the actual pull weight, it's tough to gauge whether there's a real problem, or whether you're simply surprised by the relative weight of a factory DA trigger.

My 627 has, without a doubt, the best DA action of any revolver I've ever fired. It is way less heavy than my 642. It is so smooth that no matter how I do it, I swear, the front sights will not move. It is so smooth that, for the first time in my life, I never find myself even tempted to bother shooting it in SA mode. My trigger is that good. I cannot say what the poundage on the pull is because, frankly I don't care...it's that good.

You are not alone. I just bought a 629 PC V Comp (.44) and the front site was so loose in the groove that it fell out. FELL OUT! Now that's hand craftsmanship. S&W's finest.
Anyway, they sent a tag and I sent it back. Yesterday. I hope they get it right the second time.
Just makes me feel good all over to purchase a brand new revolver for more than a thousand dollars and have it be so obviously lacking in quality control.
