Are you guys bulge busting 10mm?

I do with my .40 but not sure if I should with 10mm

Well thats a personal judgment call I would think. Just like how much the case is bulged in a 40 and wether to scrap it or not. Some will bulge bust every piece of bulged brass. I draw the line at the guppy bulged stuff. Dont want a kaboom around here. Moving the sidewall a lot will weaken it as will moving it a small amount numerous times. I qualify that by saying I do not own a firearm that will bulge brass so after "fixing" range brass it is used as normal till it splits or is lost. Having the OP ask tells me he has a line he wants to stop at.

I’m just going to run it through the buster for consistency

Yes, If loads are hot they will expand and possible budge depending on the pistol. Bulge blasting will assure the removal of the bulge. And the use of a case gauge will assure your rounds will chamber.
I have a Glock 20. A factory barrel and a KKM barrel. the Glock barrel will bulge more because it has less chamber support.

I bust .40 no matter what I load. hot or cold.

I’m just going to make it a habit with 10mm too. Why not, not like I have primers to waste or brass

right now, I’ll be loading it into a Tagfolio 10mm and a SAA 10mm. later in life I will go the Glock route (reminds me, buy 10mm glock mags)

Depends on how bad the bulge is for me. If it's bad enough after resizing. And where the bulge was. I see what i call a fold mark. Like it over lapped. It goes in the scrap bucket. 9mm and 40sw i don't bother to bulge bust. I find enough on the range that are not bulged.

So from those two guns you brass is bulging????
Have not fired the guns yet, but the donated brass from fellow members, some were hard to resize. Was thinking it was bulged, and needed busting

My brother, my main brass supplier said the same thing. “I got bucket of 9&.40, just toss it out and I’ll send you about 2k”

But, I don’t waste brass, especially 10mm (hard to get cheap) brass

Well if you given this info on your first post things would be a little easier to understand and save a bunch of band width.

So this is a hypothetical question.

Good grief

sorry bud…

I was just wondering if I need to bugle bust 10mm like my .40 brass.

I’ll just run them through to be in the safe side. Do a before and after measurements

9mm can be tough to resize. I used to put case lube on a casing. And run it through. The lube was enough to do about 10 more. Some lube would stay in the sizing die. Then one day a light bulb came on. I adjusted the lever on my press. So the downward pressure did all the work. Much better no lube needed. And it's easier on me with my arthritis. Here is a severe bulge. Those go in the scrap.

OK - so I have just ordered my first 10mm - Glock G20 Gen 4. Any issues there?
I shoot and reload 45ACP in a 21 SF (Gen3) no issues with bulge.
I shoot a G19 Gen4 (9mm) no issues there either.

Allegedly, Glock addressed the lack of case head support many years back. Can't really verify this personally.

Do the plunk test first.

Also, check your casings after shooting - if too much bulge for comfort, get a new (aftermarket) barrel.

Glock would not publicly acknowledge the lack of lower chamber support in the Gen 1 and 2 caused case bulging, because (according to their manuals) running reloads through their platform voided the factory warranty. Quietly, beginning with the Gen 3 and completing the process in Gen 4 the support for the cases was incorporated. I am unaware of the other manufacturers having this issue (but I am also not as familiar with them). Generally, the bulge was the worst in the 10MM, closely followed by the .40
I hand sort the cases during the wet tumbling process (looking for pins in all the wrong places....) and pitch those 'guppy' cases. I then de-bulge all the rest...

Be careful, as these cases can pass the plunk test and then hang up a 1911 tighter than a bank vault. That’s what happened with my RIA 10mm. And I know they were Glock cases. Spent primers from a Glock have a smiley face pattern in addition to the bulge.

I can’t say I bust a lot of bulges but I do have several roll sizers I use. When I case gauge, if I had failures it was most often not because of a bulge, rather a ding in the rim caused by the extractor/ejector and the roll sizer irons out this area.

Same reason I don’t use the barrel as a testing method other than setup for seating die, the rim, no matter how deformed will “pass”, entering the breechface is an entirely different matter though.
