"I am a member of the National Rifle Association, but not a political member. I just throw the political mail from the NRA into the trash. Charlton Heston campaigns on behalf of the NRA. He says, "Here I stand". When it comes to the right wing politics of the NRA, I don't get into that. I just believe in my right to have a gun in my house. Ceci [wife Cecilia Hart], on the other hand, is a member of the anti-gun lobby, so we pretty much cancel each other out." — actor James Earl Jones in his autobiography Voices and Silences (James Earl Jones and Penelope Niven), page 363.

I'd love to hear that booming voice of his doing NRA spots.

[Darth Vader/Thulsa Doom/Mufasa voice]
I'm the NRA.

Did the book mention his political leanings?? The few conservatives that are in Hollywood usually keep it low key. Patricia Heaton was at a dinner party and mentioned that she liked Bush and voted for him and she said it if she dropped a turd in the punch bowl.

The majority of the "Hollywood" people are total idiots! At least James Earl Jones was man enough to say that he was pro-2nd Amendment!

Tom Selleck was "squirrelly" when he was confronted about his NRA affiliation. He didn't want to say that he was an NRA "spokesman", even though he had made several NRA "endorsement" commercials!

Sorry to say, but WAY too many people "worship" the Hollywood "elite". Get REAL! Those people are ACTORS, and many of them are total hypocrites! Many of the "action heroes" in Hollywood portray "gun-toting" good guys while acting, but many of them are totally ANTI-gun! Others are anti-gun in WORDS ONLY, for they actually OWN firearms! The same goes for many of our elected "representatives" in government! "THEY" don't want YOU to have firearms, since "THEY" seem to know what is best for US....but "THEY" are "special", and NEED their own firearms to protect themselves from "US"!
(UH, are you listening to this, Senator Diane "anti-gun" Fineswine, with your CCW permit?)

Disgusting!

Oldtimer,

Oldtimer, you are WAY off base.

Tom Selleck was only taken aback when rosey o. attacked him on her show, since he was there to promote his latest movie. He declined to discuss it with her, and that simply cut off her ability to harangue in her own forum with a picked audience.
Tom Selleck is the best spokesman that the RKBA could ever have, and he is as solid as the rock of Gibralter.
He is a Director of the NRA, and I don't know how much more plainly one could make his statement. Likely he will be President of the NRA someday. We can only hope.

One of the guys who works at the range I frequent said Ozzy Osbourne really blasted Rosie when she came onto his wife's show last year. She started to whine about guns and Ozzie said to her "You're on our show now, so shut up! You and I are rich. If we need money from the atm at 3 in the morning we can send our butler to get it for us. The ordinary person can't. People need a way to defend themselves and guns are the best way."

He then said "If you're so anti gun Rosie, why don't you forbid your bodyguards from carrying guns?"

Rosie got so mad she walked off the show.
:neener:

I may have to re-evaluate my opinion of Ozzie. I thought that he was a complete drugged out vegetable without a coherent thought ever crossing his mind. Now I know that he has had at least two coherent thoughts. One that guns are not the monsters as claimed by rosie and others, and two that rosie is a hypocrite with armed guards.

Which is exactly what all the folks at my range said after seeing that! :)

The bumbling, mumbling character he portrays on his show The Osbournes is an act. I am sure he has lost a few brain cells with his past chemical abuse, but he is otherwise functional. Wasn't it last year or so he had that ATV accident? You can't be a vegetable and ride one of those. The High Priest of Heavy Metal does have a M1 Garand.

Does anyone know where to find a transcript of what was said? I did a quick search and couldn't find any reference to it.

I've never been able to find it either. But all of the guys who work at my range watched it the day it happened. I believe it was early last spring.

Does anybody else see the contradiction? ;) :D

I am in complete agreement, as I've been saying this for years. (emphasis mine)

Hey everyone. I have egg on my face. That and the gun at the gun shop I talked to must be ingesting chemicals. I asked him this weekend about the Ozzy Osbourne incident. He even mimiced Ozzy's voice when he told us at the time. I have a witness who remembers him saying Ozzy went off on Rosi about guns.
Well, I ask him about it on Saturday, and he replies: "Ozzy? I never said anything about Ozzy. It was Tom Selleck."

WHAT? Selleck and Osbourne aren't even close. So I don't know what was going on with him, but Ozzy never said anything about guns.

For all my googling, I can't find this appearance.

I can find plenty of evidence that Rosie used her show to try to publicly skewer Tom Selleck for his promo he did for the NRA, trying to say that one quick promo makes him their spokesperson. Tom handled himself pretty well, but I think it would have been wise of him at that time to turn around and lambast her for the hypocrisy of being a K-Mart spokesperson when K-Mart is one of the biggest FFL's in the country.

I found a couple of examples of attempted followups on other shows, trying to force the two of them together, but Tom wisely avoided trying to have a rational debate on the air with a barking moonbat like Rosie.

Yes, she does have armed bodyguards (even for her kids) but tries to somehow justify it saying violence has been threatened against her, so it's okay. And because she doesn't personally own a gun, somehow it's okay.

I would love to hear James earl jones booming Vader-like with some of the great qoutes of U. S. history like

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." -- Samuel Adams

OR vader-like

"Join me and together we can protect this country... brother to brother"
that would truly be cool

or
"Don't underestimate the power of the free man"

or
"Search your feelings. You know it be true. Guns save lives"

love this line but how to make it work
"All too easy. "

ok I'll stop

Does the NRA have an official opinion on anything not related to firearms? I thought they were single-issue.

What I found most appalling about the Rosie O'Donnell/ Tom Selleck thing was the fact that at the time she confronted Selleck, Rosie was doing K-Mart Commercials. K-mart sells guns and here she is confronting Selleck about the NRA. Rosie can do all she wants I won't shop where she does promos nor will I watch one of her movies or TV shows period. She and Jenine Garafolo can kiss my hairy Gumba Backside and I still won't support their work.
