Hi All,

I've been out of the loop lately with the CA gun laws...

Is it still legal to have 20 or 30 rd. mags for your rifle (mini-14) as long as you got them before the ban? I bought some back in '95-'96 and, I just wanted to make sure that they didn't flat-out ban all possession of them when I wasn't looking. You just never know in this state.

Thanks!

If you had possession of the magazines before 01-01-2000, they are legal to own and use.

You can legally buy spare magazine parts to repair any damaged magazines you own.

You can not legally use spare magazine parts to build new magazines.

Burden of proof that you did not own the magazines prior to 01-01-2000 is on the DA.

Just a minor observation re your sig line, Spencer. Off topic, I know. But.....

If you can find a hot looking and intelligent woman that likes guns and fast cars . . . marry her quickly.
Do you suppose that if she was intelligent, she would even be interested in marrying someone who included "hot looking" as one of his criteria?

:D

Meef, Hell yeah. What smoking hot chick, intelligent or not, doesn't like being told she is "hot"?:D

I have a sad story that is kinda on-topic.

I was down at a local Turners a few months back when a late 30's/early 40's professional looking guy came to the counter. He asked where a good local place to shoot his rifle at that didn't mind "high rate's of fire." Salesman told him of his favorite place and asked what the guy had.

"I bought a nice xxx brand AK in 97 and put it into storage with 20 high cap mags. Work took over my life for a long time and I'm ready to get back into shooting."

It was REALLY painful to hear the clerk break it to the guy that since 2000, there has been a ban on them, and he would have had to register his "new" rifle before early '00 as an AW.

Gentleman left sad and only understanding that he is now a "potential felon" should he move his rifle into the publics eye (legally transfer/transport/ship) and that he is only going to own some mags after all is said and done.

Don't blink, you might find out your rights are gone without even knowing they were taken....

Its so stupid that liberals and socialists there have complete control over there I think California is like a different country very close to mexico.

It's actually more like Canada. It's a haven for socialists who believe in majority (parlimentarian) rule.

But back on topic... Yes, if you owned them before they were banned, they were grandfathered in. You also don't need to own a gun for the hi-caps to go into (ie, you may have bough 33 round glock mags years ago, in anticipation of one day buying a Glock). They would also be legal.

Prince: It may be a haven for socialists but there are some of us still here, and we aren't giving up. And some of us stockpiled loads of REGULAR cap magazines before the ban. :)
