I have 500 Rainier copper plated 40 S&W bullets that are 165 grain RNFP. I have tried for months to find a load but I have been unsuccessful. Does anyone have a load for this with the C.O.L.??? Please help.
I also don't know how Rainier plated 165gr RNFP compare to Xreme plated 165gr RNFP, but I have been using the Hodgdon load data for 165 gr BERB FP without any issues when loading the Xtreme 165gr RNFP bullets. I loaded to a COL of 1.125" and 1.142" using AutoComp.
The Xtreme 165gr RNFP bullet length is between 0.5335" and 0.5360" based on my measurements.
Try a longer OAL. Up to 1.145 if it will pass the plunk test.
5.0 WST at 1.125" is a good load for me with 165 plated. So is 5.4 Unique. With Xtreme 165 RNFP, though, not Raniers.
You might look up bds' threads on loading .40 with Promo/Red Dot. 4.0 or thereabouts has been good for me with a few .40 loads. You'll have to find the old Alliant data from 2004 and earlier.
I have loaded the Rainer 165gr FP bullets with, Titegroup, HS-6 & Longshot. I used Hodgdon's data for Berry bullets with great success. I pushed this bullet to 1300fps out of a carbine with Longshot, I like them a lot.
I think Longshot is my favorite with the plated bullets in .40 and HS6 with lead.
I've loaded Xtreme's 165gr RNFP over 6.4gr Power Pistol with OAL of 1.125 with great success out of both a SIG 2022 and Glock 23. A good low/middle-road load with great results.
