Ramline .22LR?

Hi,

At a local gunshop, I noticed a Ramline Symtech .22LR pistol. As my wife has finally expressed an interest to shoot (Ah, there IS a God!), I thought that this might me a good one.

First impressions (with the trigger lock in--the shop was very busy) is that this is the .22 Glock would have made.

However, the few items I've Goggled have negative things to say about this gun. In fact, no one has anything good to say about anything made by Ramline.

Does anyone have anything good to say about this gun? It looks mint and I can get it for a good price--it it's any good.

Talk me out of it or talk me into it.

I've never actually seen one myself and have never met someone who has even handled one but I remember them existing. Wouldn't be my 1st choice in a .22 LR pistol solely based on what little I have heard about them has not been positive.

I think it would be worth a little extra to get a gun with a solid reputation. You don't need to be fighting with malfs and idocyncracies while trying to teach someone to shoot.

If it breaks getting it fixed will be a booger.

But I have something good to say about something from Ramline.
I have a half dozen 18 round Ramline SIG P226 magazines that have performed like champs for years.

I had a few ram-line .22 RF magazines for my 10/22.
They all wound up in the trash after a very short period of ownership...

I actually bought one of those some years ago. I don't know why... maybe it was just cheap.
Anyway, it didn't run well. It jammed, particularly after it got warmed up in an extended shooting session.

I had the dumbest accident with that gun! After a shooting session, I somehow laid the gun on top of my car and after putting away other guns and gear, forgot it was up there. The darned thing fell off my car when I drove away and the barrel bent at right angles! It wasn't like I was going 90 either, I had just pulled away and it slid off and landed on the ground - thunk! Bent barrel.

I will say this for Ramline - I told them exactly how it happened and they fixed it for free. Maybe they just felt sorry for me, being mentally handicapped enough to do that to a gun...

It never was reliable and I traded it off not long afterwards. Come to think of it, it wasn't very accurate either. I think that thin barrel warped when it warmed up.

Get a Ruger or a Browning Buckmark!

No Ramline For Me

....absolutely nothing positive about this gun.

Nothing.

It must be on the worst gun of all times list.


And even if it were for free, it isn't heavy enough to be a paperweight.

You need to pick up a Ruger 22/45, or a Browning Buckmark. Leave the Ramline where you found it!
