Random Gun Pics...let’s see how random we can make it

Wrong again.
In the case of Cavalry, the weapon used was primary a sword. The U. S. advanced to the handgun vice the sword. That use easily qualifies as a 'special use'. One notes that since the U. S. Cavalry was motorized, handguns have been used much less for strategic or tactical victory.
Actually the Civil War was the beginning of the end of swords/sabers as a primary cavalry weapon relegating it to the ceremonial role in America. In fact during the Civil War very few cavalry clashes resulted in the use of the sword as long range muskets, carbines and revolvers made cavalry charges suicidal at best.

She does. That picture and her story are at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Cold War Gallery).

Great museum just outside Dayton OH, with free admission and 360 aircraft to see.

It's closer to 400 at this moment. More to come soon too.
Best martial museum in the US, hands down. This picture catalog is from circa 1988, the Model 15 is a little older and the ASEK a little newer. :)

Whats up with the gear teeth cartridge rims? Just to make the proof loads easily identifiable?
Yes,
the cartridges are all marked in some way, red or green paint, the .44 Mags are engraved and some have the rim serrated. Geco used to load the proof cartridges with the increased load for common calibers and a German commercial reloader loads the cartridges for rare or obsolete calibers. The proof house checks throats, chambers and barrel dimensions before test firing the guns.
