Just loaded up my bag for trap tomorrow, and the thing must way about 40 lbs, not including the other two cases of ammo. Thats just trap, no rifles included. Not 21 yet, so no pistols

How much does your average range bag weigh?

Under 20lbs, I guess. A pair of handguns, about 3 or 400rds ammo, earplugs, targets, shooting glasses, rag and other light cleaning supplies.

Mine is typically heavy enough to bug my shoulder when I lift it up to go to the range :p

I've had to take too many trips home in years past to get 1 tool or something. Now, I take EVERYTHING with me :p

Depends on the day . . .

Generally, not less than 20 lbs.

Most of that is ammo.

Occasionally a sidearm, although on "pistol day" they usually go in their own cases.

If I'm doing a diverse set of calibres, then I have more kinds of ammo, and the bag gets heavier.

About 30 lbs, maybe 35, at the high end.

when I head to the range my MOLLE usually weighs in at 40ish pounds. A pistol or 3, ammo, H20, targets, etc.

I also fall into the "way over-prepared" category. By the time I get a small cleaning kit, a few necessary tools, spare magazines, ammo, ear and eye protection, etc., I'm probably somewhere in the 35-40 pound range.

I have not weighed my gear, but I would say both of the two range-bags I haul around weigh in excess of 20lbs.

If I am practicing for / shooting a smallbore position event add another 20-30lb bag w/ spotting scope, pole and stand, mat, beanbag, HEAVY leather shooting jacket, ect... Plus a damn heavy rifle.

The bags are always much lighter after a session, though...

I carry the 400-500 rounds of .38 spl and 120 rounds of 30-'06 in a separate can to comply with California transportation regs. The range bag is a Sears toolbox with all the cleaning gear and usually my three revolvers: M66, 686+ and PC627VComp. Dunno what each weighs, but I've got to carry one on either side to walk straight up.

Would really depend - on a standard range session - handguns only - I would estimate about 25 lbs or so, but since it's mostly ammo weight, the trip home is considerable lighter. Long gun would be twice that because of all the extra ammo and stuff I bog myself down w/  I'm taking and shotgun less because I don't bring a range gun w/ me for trap shooting.

i have two cheap walmart range bags, i dont put anything super heavy (aka guns or ammo) in em. I use ammo cans and gun bags/cases for the heavy stuff.

For pistols? A lot less than what it weighs when it comes home :D
Luckily our next door neighbor has a shooting bench set up for rifles so we can just load the sandbags, guns, ammo, spotting scope, targets, blanket, ear muffs, etc. in the box on the back of the ATV and drive over.
I imagine it depends on what you shoot and how much of it. I imagine the belt fed guys need trailers lol.

no ammo in it, and it still weighs 20 or 25 lbs. mostly tools, rags, cleaning gear, bino's, earmuffs, and enough targets for everbody else on the range.

My pistol bag is probably 30 lbs or so. No pistols in there, I carry them in a separate smaller pistol bag (about the size of a large purse--carries two pistols) along with that days ammo and about 10 magazines--1911s. There is spare ammo in the range bag. Since I shoot and practice IDPA, I carry several holsters, magazine pouches, along with the usual junk that only is used when needed, but really needed when used.
My rifle bag (yes, I have a different one for each) has gotten down right heavy.
A couple of months ago I headed out to the rifle range with some new handloads in .308 I wanted to try. I loaded up the M1A, brought a Garand for some .30-'06 shooting, everything I needed for a couple of hours of fun. Once I got to the range and unpacked everything I realized that I had forgotten to bring and magazines for the M1A. That added about 20 lbs to the range back right there.

LOL.
Oh yeah, I could use one of them. Or else get one of those paratrooper uniforms with all the pockets. Only problem with one of them would be I would end-up looking like the Michelin man :neener:

Don't know the weight

But everything I need is there: 2 sets of eye/ear protection, targets, tack-driver(big stapler), markers, extra mags, pistols, ammo (most in plastic Wal-Mart bag), first aid kit, Leatherman tool (not really a Leatherman, but heavier duty), a few rags, and masking tape.
Most weight comes from the number of pistols and amount of ammo.
Usually, I buy too much ammo and only leave the range when I get tired of reloading the magazines or picking up my spent brass. I keep most of my ammo at home (big ol' bucket of .22lr, 1k+ of .380, a few bricks of 9mm, and lotsa .40) and make sure i leave the range with a loaded .40 and an extra magazine.
The range I use is outdoors, with multiple pistol lanes (horse-shoe berms), adjustable pistol/rifle with large earthen backstop, 50 yd, 75yd, 100yd, 150yd, 200yd, to 750yd lanes. Turkeys, geese, chickens, goats and a couple dogs wander around (not targets! pets!). There is also a skeet range at the far right corner. Reactive targets, appliances and multiple 2x4/cardboard target stands available.
I've seen as many as 4 people out there at a time! Mostly it's me and my dog (trying to refuse the advances of the range dog) and maybe the curmugeon retired-FBI owner of the place twanging away on a guitar or doing some minor gunsmithing.
He sure does make sure I pick up my spent brass! I fire .22 to .40 (ok, no .25 or .32) so I end up picking everyone else's brass ("Don't be picky!").

My range bag sure is a lot lighter when I leave, but my fingers are lot dirtier from picking up casings!

machine gun, .22, shotgun and all in between! I love my range! Just an old g-man/owner, no range nazi, or "bangers". Just good ol' folk trying to put more in the black.

If you shoot 3-gun, you'll really get good at packing light.

I've abandoned ordinary shooting bags in favor of a 3-day rucksack, which is far more comfortable. The pack holds my pistol, six pistol magazines, 3 rifle magazines plus a Beta mag, my gunbelt and holster, 2 pistol magazine carriers, 2 rifle magazine carriers (one for prone, one for standing), 3-5 shotshell carriers, all my ammo*, a small toolkit, eyes, ears, and some bottles of water/snacks.

The pack by itself probably weighs fifty pounds loaded. I should stick it on the scale sometime. Oh, and that doesn't include my rifle and shotgun.

Some 3-gun shooters use carts to transport their gear, which I don't much care for. They seem to spend a lot of time stuck in the mud, being carried up rocky trails, etc.

* - For a big match, that can be ~200 rounds of .40, ~300 rounds of 5.56mm, and ~150 12ga. shotshells.

I guess mine to be in the 40# range. It'amazing that I need so much stuff just to shoot some guns. :scrutiny:

It all depends on how many firearms and how much ammunition. Yesterday was about 200 pounds of gear. Other days I ride the motorcycle and carry less than 50.
