Just got back from CCW qualification with 5 brand new guns and 2 used craigslist guns.

Note none of the guns had any safety or trigger features changed or upgraded, I wanted to keep these guns as reliable, legal as they may end up being tested in a criminal & civil trial, if the worst ever happens. So I shot them as they were shipped from the factory.

New S.W. 380 laser body guard laser, fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds, = 0 malfunctions very accurate, (heavy da only trigger, you must watch hammer falling and time your shots for tight grouping.)

New Kimber ultra eclispe -45 fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds, = 0 malfunctions out of the box, tight one hole groups, shoots point of aim, fantastic.

New Kimber SIS Pro -45 fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds, = 0 malfunctions out of the box, tight one hole groups, shoots point of aim, ( note shoots a little lower than ultra eclipse)

New browning hp 9mm adjustable sight model -fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds = 0 malfunctions, gun is kind clunky feel, loose, heavy long trigger, decent groups, but not as good as the kimbers. Front sight is very hard to see.

New browning hp 9mm CAPITAN sight model -fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds = 0 malfunctions, gun is kind clunky feel, loose, heavy long trigger, decent groups, but not as good as the kimbers. Sights are a little better than the adjustable sight model and it shot point of aim.

USED Walther ppk inter arms SS 380 interarms $250, cracked grips ( replaced with custom wood grips) gun wasn't shot much. fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds. I had another interarms ppk that was a POS, so this was a gamble.
Turned out to be a very accurate gun, shot point of aim, tight groups, almost out shot the kimbers, 0 malfunctions. Very suprizing results.

USED SW 38 spl 2" snub blue - fired 60 shots 7-25 yrds = 0 malfunctions, very accurate , shot point of aim, very reliable old school pistol.

no pics ccw instructor kept targets for his records, pictures of guns are meaningless, results are what counts.

keeping targets

FWIW

I can't speak for any other state laws regarding retention and only speak for myself and ND. I am a CCW instructor in ND, and I find the practice of retaining target and/or test results an invitation to being called into court should the shooter ever need to use his firearm to defend himself, and probably being forced to testify against my student.

Picture this, your instructor has been subpoenaed along with his records and is sitting on the witness stand. The opposing attorney is showing the jury how expert a shot you are and he has your targets to prove his point. The next question out of his mouth would be something to the effect of "With your obvious shooting ability, why did you not shoot the attacker in a less lethal area?"

I'm assuming that we here at THR we would be able to use our brain matter and deduce that the situation at hand does not lend one to clear and logical emergency thought, but we would probably pull the trigger until the eminent threat is eliminated either by surrender or other. However, most juries would be made up of persons that both of the attorneys would agree on. I would be willing to bet the opposing attorney would do his absolute best to make sure that the jury would be made up of persons that profiled as being sympathetic to his side of the case.

If my students pass both written and practical shooting tests, they get a 'passed' on the paperwork and that is what is reported. All targets and the actual tests are destroyed within 24 hours.

Just passing on food for thought for any of you out there considering getting your CCW. Talk to your instructor and find out what he/she does with your test and targets after the testing process. I realize that an instructor cannot give you your test but they should definitely NOT retain targets unless mandated by state law.

no pics ccw instructor kept targets for his records,
Understandable. My CHL class had all the targets thrown away and the instructors wouldn't let us keep them.

Respectfully disagree, here. Pictures of a forum member's guns are worthy. It shows a possible variation of a known gun and perhaps a good quality photo.

Results can be written without verification. Photos of targets can help, though.

I've seen thousands of 1911's, thousands of glocks, etc... I always enjoy looking at a picture though. Especially for 1911's. custom grips, slide stop, MSH, hammer, sights, all people run dif. configs and i love to see the variation.
