Just got a marlin 1894c to match my S&W 686p. Any way finally got it to
the range today. I brought 110grjhp winchester white box, American eagle
158gr jsp, and S&B 158gr Jsp. First let me say I was completly surprised
by how accurate this rifle is with a Williams 5d peep. I started by firing 5 fouling shots. Started at 25yard to get the point of aim set, shot to zero at that range. I could easily get 1" groups. With all ammo. Next I moved the
target to 100Yds. The Amer-Eagle 158's gave me about 5" groups off the bench and about 3" high. The S&b gave me 3.5-4" groups also about 3 " high. The winchester 110's where the worst strangely, with the best I could
get being about 7"-8", also about 6" high at that range. I'm guessing that
the Marlin has a twist which is better for the heavier rounds. My Clubs
range is located In FT. Dix Nj, and has a 200Yd rifle range. So just for the
heck of it I set the pie plates at that range and found that I could hit it
every time with the S&B stuff, groups about 6" and about 4" low. Now I
know this isn't great accuracy but Damn, with only a peep sight, works
for me.
The specifics: Williams 5d sight .93 aperature. Slow fire from bench, and
bag. Rifle fired in 5shot groups, allowed to cool 5 minutes between
groups. The S&B stuff only 8.99 a box!!!! At 200YDs I had to put the bead
on the top edge of the pie plate . No wind Slight drizzle and mist.
I can see I'm going to like this rifle
