Well I got to the range today with my Baby Eagle 9mm and a box of the Fiocchi stuff that Cheaper Than Dirt has been advertising. I actually heard about it here and ordered some up. Not a real scientific test mind you!! The stuff looks almost exactly like the old Black Talons I used to see............. but has a perfectly flat center that looks like the head of a small finish nail down in the center of the hollow point. It almost looks like a seperate piece.

I compared it to a box of Fiocchi 115g FMJ and 115g S&B at 15 & 25 yards, outdoors on a beautiful sunny Oregon High Desert day with a chilly breeze.

The targets were a 6" Shoot&See circle at 15 yards and a coffee can on the ground at 25.

first round results at 15 yards slow fire, 10 round mags of each:

- 115g Fiocchi shot as usual, hot as hell all over the target with the pistol jumping about in my hands.......just like +p stuff

- 115g S&B shot smoothly as usual pretty much on target with easy follow up shots as the pistol remained easily on target.

- 147g Fiocchi Police stuff stuff shot as smooth as the lighter S&B with the shots all hitting the circle and the same ease of keeping the pistol on target.

I did the same drill with another mag of each with the same results.

The next round was another mag of each shooting at an almost rapid fire pace at the coffee can out at 25 yards.

The 'hot' 115g Fiocchi jammed twice!!........while the 115gS&B and 147gFiocchi cycled smoothly as I happily bounced the can down-range.

I was satisfyed with the results and quite happy with the new Fiocchi stuff. It cycles as smooth as silk and shoots well for me. I will keep the other box for self defence uses and even though I hope to never need it, I have the confidence it will reliably feed and hit home when needed.

I let my two friends cycle the remaing ammo from the three boxes downrange. There were no FTFs and it was pretty annoying to see one of them hit the same sized 6" Shoot&See out at 50 yards 6 out of 10 times having never touched the Baby Eagle before!! (but that is another story)

FWIW- I am a revolver shooter by prefference, but have always had an auto in the collection and always qualifyed 'expert' with my Berretta while in the Army.
.......... and the 9mm Baby Eagle compact is my only auto pistol, it having recently replaced a P7 that I swore by for many years. Alot to be said for a pistol that just 'fits' I guess!!

be well and safe shooting

I guess that I'll have to pick up a few boxes and give'm a try..
outdoors on a beautiful sunny Oregon High Desert day with a chilly breeze.
[They probably won't work as well since we never see the weather conditions that you get in the 'Outback' part of this state.. ;) ]

Thanks for the invite, dude.. ;)

But, I'm afraid if I leave this watery "swamp" that I'm going to lose my protective outer coating that shields me from the intense heat of Eastern Oregon..:D LOL!

BTW- I did not do any sort of test of expansion or anything.............but I can not imagine that getting hit by one would be, as Martha Stewart says: "a good thing"

What would be the best way to do this sort of test w/o getting nutty about it?
