Took my new SIG 225 and Baretta 92FS Vertec to the range today. Both are very well made pistols with good reputations for reliability, durability, and accuracy. I chose both of these pistols for the above reasons, and becuase they fit my small hands well (though the 225 fit a little better).
I put 100 rounds of Winchester White Box Value Pack ammo thru each. Both performed flawlessly (no suprise there). The SIG has the better trigger of the two, though I've been spoiled on some rather nice 1911 triggers. The Vertec's double action trigger leaves alot to be desired (way too heavy and long), though it's single action is pretty good. Like I said the SIG trigger was better, but not quite as good as my grandfather's 10yo 228 (of course his has had thousands of rounds thru it!). Both the SIG and Baretta have smooth triggers, not gritty or creeping. Both have good sights. The Baretta being heavier and having a longer barrel had less felt recoil, but neither were uncomfortable in anyway (except the DA trigger for the Vertec).
Both were very accurate, the equal of my 1911's, even when you consider the 1911's better trigger. With the Vertec I shot one 5 round ONE HOLE group at 50 feet freehand with a two handed grip!! That is the best freehand group I've ever shot at that distance! The SIG's accuracy was nearly equal.
I am very happy with both pistols and would whole heartily recommend either one of them. I intend to put about 1000 rounds thru each before deciding if I want to have a trigger job done on them, though I feel the Vertec needs one.
