I got in from the range this weekend, and was once again thoroughly impressed by both of these pistols. I chose the HK USP in .45ACP. My brother chose the SIG Pro SP2022 in 9mm. I love mine, and he loves his, and heres why:

The Good: The USP is handsome, beefy, well-made, and accurate. You get the lighter weight of a polymer pistol with the safety setup of a 1911. Double Stack, 12+1 rounds of .45 ACP. This thing hasnt hiccupped in 2500 rounds, all of which were cheap practice ammo. Its easy to strip down and clean, but if you dont want to clean it, it wont complain. Polygonal rifling means no lead bullets, but apparently makes it more accurate. Recoil Reduction system seems to help, its a soft shooter.

The Bad: The trigger pull isnt the best, but its certainly not a deal breaker. The gun sits higher in the hand, which seems to result in a more pronounced muzzle flip, though its still a soft shooting 45. Magazines are expensive at about 50 bucks a pop for the 12 rounders. 10 rounders are only 20ish. Its big. Most guys wouldnt pick a gun like this to carry concealed, but it can be done.

The Good: The Sig Pro SP2022 has been equally reliable, and is very accurate. 15+1 rounds of 9mm, 3 magazines included, comes standard with night sights and 2 grip panels to pick from. I consider this an unbeatable deal for $487 shipped from Bud's. The trigger is better than the USP. I was chewing the head out of a silhouette target from 25 feet, and it was my first time shooting it.

The Bad: Hmmm. The controls are a bit awkward if youre not used to SIG controls. I'm used to my USP so I kept reaching for the decock lever when trying to release the slide. If you release the slide by hand, slowly, it doesnt always go all the way forward. Odd, but as long as you pull back and let it fly forward, it works fine. Apparently this quirk is common to all SIG Pro pistols, so I read.

All in all, I consider both of these pistols to be great buys. The USP's can be found as low as $450 on the boards, and most used USP pistols seem to be in good shape. They hold up well with use. Some people write off the HK because of price, but they arent hard to find for under $550. Mine was $500. The SIG Pro seems to be a great pistol, and I'm considering picking one up after shooting my brothers. A new one runs like $480ish from Bud's and comes with night sights, 3 mags, and grip panels. For someone in the market for a fine midsized auto, I cant think of a better buy on the market.

Both pistols come highly reccomended!
