Our gun club has been having regular monthly shoots lately, but I haven't really been participating. I'd like to, but during the racing season I'm rather busy either racing, prepping bikes in my off time, or working. Anyhow, they're having a shoot Saturday and I think I'll go. I went out to the range to figure out what I'm going to do for a weapon for the .22 pistol shoot. I don't really have a target gun. It's to be 10 rounds bullseye, timed, 20 seconds for five rounds, reload, 20 seconds for five more.

I have this old Charter Arms Explorer 2, which is the AR7 in pistol form. It's accurate, but you don't even wanna think about that trigger. I got it sighted in, just cheap Federal Hi Vel ammo, and proceeded to fire some pretty pathetic ten round groups, one hand which is the rule for the shoot.

Well, I played with my P85 some, fired up a box of 9mm in my Kel Tec, then went back to .22 stuff. I bought a used Rossi revolver a while back at a gun show, a M511 Sportsman. I'd had one I bought before that had gotten stolen. I'd wanted to replace it and when I stumbled upon this one, I bought it. I'd plinked with it, noticed it shot well, but never really got down serious with it. My old one would shoot around 2.5" at 25 yards, pretty good for a four inch kit gun size revolver. But, this one is unreal! I picked it up on a lark just to fire one 10 round group off hand, one handed, 25 yards. The targets I was using are rapid fire centers. Ten ring is about 3", X ring is about an inch. First five shots had 2 in the X ring, four 10s and one in the 8! WOW, so I fired five more. I wound up with a 93 score, better than the high 80s I was shooting with that POS Explorer. So, I got serious and fired another 10 on a fresh target, this time I had a called flyer high. Friggin' trigger is so light it broke before I wanted it to, LOL. If feels like a target trigger after shooting that Explorer. It is a very good trigger at any rate, the DA is a little stiff, but the SA us UNREAL! I called that flyer high, went in the 7 (I blame hunger, I was a little shakey, hadn't had anything to eat all day. Anyway, with that flyer I still shot a 96! I had one 7 high (called), one just out of the ten ring, 2 X ring hits, the rest 10s. I was shocked! So, curious, I sat down with some sand bags on a fresh target and fired 5 rounds, one ragged four shot hole with another that opened the group up to right at an inch! CHRIST! I had no idea my kit gun was a target pistol! Anyway, I think I may shock some folks this weekend. The club has one serious bullseye shooter and he shoots a M52 Smith. Nough said. :D But, I think I can take the rest of the Ruger, Browning Buckmark crowd with this little cheap revolver. :D I hope they're as shocked as I was, LOL!
