I've got an XD9 and XD40. Both are 100% reliable. Accuracy is decent. Both have quite a bit of muzzle flip due to their light weight. The rust issue is way overrated -- hit it was a little CLP occasionally and they'll never rust. To each his own, but I'll take them over Glock any day.

I picked the "I love it" one, but sadly don't have one. I certainly wouldnt pick the HK one.....though I love HKs, I just think the XD is a much better buy and barring that even I prefer most other poly guns.

I am so thankful, that my XD-45, was not my first handgun purchase, otherwise I would not have had the experiences, with all the other handguns I have owned and still do own.....it would be my only handgun......yes it is that good!!!!

I have over 3000 rounds now and I have tried at least 20 different ammo configurations in it, trying to make it FTF in any way. I have been happily disapointed......the darn thing is like that proverbial Timex Watch.

I just recently took it to the range with 250 rounds of MagTech 230gr. My XD really likes this round for super accuracy. After about 5 mags and a bunch of ragged bullseyes, I had about a dozen spectators. I let every one shoot at least one mag full and all but one was really impressed, but he was a Glock guy!! A couple of them were planning on adding a XD-45 to their Christmas list as the #1 item......:D

Like the country song says: " I like it, I love it, I want some more of it"!!!!:p

XD45 Service

Mine hasn't hiccuped or burped since I've owned it! (nearly a thousand rounds) Well made, no rust problems with mine. It shoots where I point it. It fits my hand almost as well as a 1911.

My wife and kids like to shoot it. When we have people over to our house to shoot, which is several times a month, it is always the gun people want to shoot the most. (my son's RRA AR-15 is a close second)

I have several friends who have purchased XDs after shooting mine and I haven't heard any complaints from them about their choice.

Springfield XDs...well done!!!

I rate it as well suited for my purposes at a price I'm willing to pay.

It is relatively well made for a production gun. It's not going to impress you like a high end piece and it won't have that tactile look and feel of some of the more expensive guns, but there's no tooling marks I've ever seen on any of mine, no rough edges, etc. Everything is fitted well. In my experience you have to pay another $250 or more to get something which is noticeably better made, and even then you're mostly buying "prettiness".

Mine shoots very well, more accurately than I do. The "accuracy" of this pistol depends very much on if you like the feel and ergonomics. I love the ergonomics.

Mine have all been very reliable. I trust my life to them.

It's probably as inherently accurate as any other stock pistol out there. I have heard of some of them becoming real tack drivers with an aftermarket trigger job and installation of aftermarket sights

Not a spot of rust, and I've had the new and old finishes. Just lots of holster wear on the older finish.

I've converted three others to the XD platform and I am drooling at the thought of an honest to goodness .45 subcompact.

I would not rate it better or worse than a Glock, just different. Better for me personally? I think so. Glock fanbois tend to see the XD as some kind of personal threat sometimes and will do everything to decry it at times, and occassionally you'll see the opposite, but I try to not engage in that kind of pointless behavior. I know lots of people who have both a Glock and an XD and they seem to prefer one over the other in more or less equal amounts. As I said, not better or worse, just different.

I've owned (sold since) an XD9 sub and the XD service (4") in 9mm. For the type of platform they are, I rate them tops in all the catagories of your questions. I used my sub for CC and it had no finish short-comings of any kind the year I carried it.

I would highly recommend it to others, but I just never warmed up to the striker-fired style guns and frankly, the guns looks were about as interesting as a claw hammer. To me, it was just another tool of mine. I never was moved by it's looks.

The best of all guns to me is one that is totally reliable AND has an appearance that makes you want to just sit and admire it. I just think that whenever it is practical, a firearm should be appealing to the eye as well as be a fine shooter.

So I am wondering how everyone would rate the Springfield XD???

How well made is it?

How does it shoot?

How reliable is it?

How is it's accuracy?

Has any parts rusted?

Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?

Is it better or worse than a Glock?

I own two Xd's. One is an XD9SC and the other is an XD45 service model. I am retired, own my own shooting range on my farm and, because of that have put several thousand rounds through each of the XD's I own.

I have never, never had any problem with either of them - period! No failures to fire, extract, etc. Of course I keep them well cleaned and lubed so no rust problems with either of them.

I have found them to be more than reasonably reliable, quite accurate, and I would, and have, recommended them to other shooters. Those that have bought XD's have had pretty much the same results as I have had.

Good gun. Better or worse than a Glock? I have owned and shot a number of Glocks and have nothing negative to say about them. However, I much prefer my XD pistols to any Glock I have ever owned and shot. FWIW:)

I own two XD's, a 9mm service and a 9mm tactical. Both guns are about three years old. Here's a synopsis of my experience.

Has any parts rusted?

No rust on my guns, but plenty of holster wear..both need re-finishing. Take care of your guns and they won't rust. Can't do much about holster wear and Kydex holsters though(both are IDPA guns). This is not an issue with the newer guns with the melonite finish, however.

How well made is it?

Mine appear to be well made..no obvious machining marks or poor fitting parts. Slide to frame fit is excellent on both guns.

How is it's accuracy?

No more or less accurate than any gun I've owned. In my case the shooter is the limiting factor.;)

Is it better or worse than a Glock?

Never owned a Glock, so can't comment. The XD fits my hand better than the Glock. Try 'em both and make your own decision.

How reliable is it?

Here's the rub...both of my XD's broke at about the 1000 round count. The service model had to have the extractor replaced and the tactical had a striker retaining pin break. The service had to go back to Springfield for a new extractor. Cost me $50.00 to ship it back. Springfield did pay return shipping and refunded my shipping cost but they took their own sweet time sending my refund. That amounts to an interest free 60 day loan IMHO.:fire:

Now with the tactical Springfield did send me a new striker pin, but would not send me a striker spring...that's on their long list of parts they won't provide or sell. Can't understand why they trust me to install a striker pin, but not slip a new spring onto the striker when I re-assemble the gun.

Take Springfield's silly parts policy into consideration if you plan to shoot competitively with an XD. Competition guns need parts such as springs and pins replaced on a regular basis. Kind of dumb to have to sit out a match because of a broken $.50 spring or pin that's only available if you send your gun to Springfield for service.

Big advantage to Glock.

Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
For a range gun or plinker, yes..without a doubt.
For CCW...not for me...too hard to conceal, especially the grip. BTW, I'm 6"1',225 lbs with a developing case of "dunlop disease":D .
For IDPA or IPSC...not until Springfield changes their asinine parts policy or an after market source for parts develops.

Just my dos centavos...take it for what it's worth.

I own 4 of five models:

XD-9 (service model)
XD-40 SC
XD-357SIG (service model)
XD-45LE (GAP) (service model)

The XD-45ACP is next...

Sold ALL of my glocks...

EXTREMELY Well made...

GREAT Grip Angle...

GREAT Accuracy (all of them - out of the box)

NO Rust

NO FTF issues at all - 100% RELIABLE

HANDGUN of The year!

'nuff said??? :)

How well made is it?
Outstanding.

How does it shoot?
Smooth.

How reliable is it?
Flawless.

How is it's accuracy?
Better than me.

Has any parts rusted?
Nope, and mine got a few dunkings is saltwater on a kayaking trip on the coast last summer.

Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
Absolutely.

Is it better or worse than a Glock?
I'm not going to say it's better than a Glock, because my Glock would also rate 'excellent' on most of your questions. But I will say this - my Glock hasn't come out of the safe once since my XD-45 arrived. Both are outstanding guns, but the XD is by far my favorite.

Love it!

OK I have two of them, both 45's One is the Tactical [Stainless slide-no rust issues there] the other is a service model, all black, no rust.

1] It is very well made gun. I love how easy it is to take down. Nice Mag's, all around solid polymer pistol.

2] I like the way it shoots. Shoots point of aim and is accurate at even 25 yards.

3] Extremely reliable-never FTF, FTE, never a hiccup in either gun, no matter what ammo. Both guns are into the thousands of rounds.

4] I find that it is a very accurate

5] Rust has never been an issue. All 2006 models have the melonite finish.

6] I love the XD .45 platform and have already purchased two. I would highly recommend it.

7] I do not own any Glock's-cannot say how it compares.

The Best to all! Merry Christmas!

Frank

My XD-40 is a fine gun. I have only positive things to say about it. I don't know if it's better than a Glock.

Marshall, my vote would have been something like "Nice pistol, used to own one" or something like that. I can't criticize a pistol that works.

Good to see all the positive comments.

Bought one today, an XD40 in an even up trade for two of my less loved guns (Taurus 66, and the CZ-100 that never quite made it out of probation in 4+ years).

I do believe the XD45 is the best .45 going. I love mine. I assume the smaller ones are good as well but I believe glock competes better in that bracket. The 'small' xds are too bulky and top heavy in comparison to other offerings.

I've dropped this thing more times then I can count! (Don't ask!)

I hate to admit this, but I NEVER clean this gun. Just look at the barrel if you don't believe me. The ONLY permanent marks I can make out so far are on the chamber. The slide is battered, but not scarred. I obviously have the new finish because like I stated before, this gun has been dropped on everything from concrete to jagged rocks.

It's also worth mentioning that the light in the picture has lasted about as long as the gun and under most of the same conditions. It costs about 50 bucks + online fees. I got lucky and found it at a local gunstore, but I've never seen it or heard of it anywhere else.
