So I am wondering how everyone would rate the Springfield XD???
How well made is it?
How does it shoot?
How reliable is it?
How is it's accuracy?
Has any parts rusted?
Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
Is it better or worse than a Glock?
I own two XD's, a 9mm service and a 9mm tactical. Both guns are about three years old. Here's a synopsis of my experience.
No rust on my guns, but plenty of holster wear..both need re-finishing. Take care of your guns and they won't rust. Can't do much about holster wear and Kydex holsters though(both are IDPA guns). This is not an issue with the newer guns with the melonite finish, however.
Mine appear to be well made..no obvious machining marks or poor fitting parts. Slide to frame fit is excellent on both guns.
No more or less accurate than any gun I've owned. In my case the shooter is the limiting factor.
Is it better or worse than a Glock?
Never owned a Glock, so can't comment. The XD fits my hand better than the Glock. Try 'em both and make your own decision.
Here's the rub...both of my XD's broke at about the 1000 round count. The service model had to have the extractor replaced and the tactical had a striker retaining pin break. The service had to go back to Springfield for a new extractor. Cost me $50.00 to ship it back. Springfield did pay return shipping and refunded my shipping cost but they took their own sweet time sending my refund. That amounts to an interest free 60 day loan IMHO.
Now with the tactical Springfield did send me a new striker pin, but would not send me a striker spring...that's on their long list of parts they won't provide or sell. Can't understand why they trust me to install a striker pin, but not slip a new spring onto the striker when I re-assemble the gun.
Take Springfield's silly parts policy into consideration if you plan to shoot competitively with an XD. Competition guns need parts such as springs and pins replaced on a regular basis. Kind of dumb to have to sit out a match because of a broken $.50 spring or pin that's only available if you send your gun to Springfield for service.
Big advantage to Glock.
Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
For a range gun or plinker, yes..without a doubt.
For CCW...not for me...too hard to conceal, especially the grip. BTW, I'm 6"1',225 lbs with a developing case of "dunlop disease"
.
For IDPA or IPSC...not until Springfield changes their asinine parts policy or an after market source for parts develops.
Just my dos centavos...take it for what it's worth.
